If you absolutely cannot keep them off, please cover any furniture thoroughly (we provide a pet blanket to cover the sofa in a basket in the room). - Do not allow pets to bark incessantly or cause disturbance to the other guests. - By bringing a pet, you agree that you will pay for any and all damages caused by pets to furniture or furnishings at the property and that you agree to our pet rules. CHILDREN UNDER 12 Are allowed at The Rattlesnake Suite, but we first like to inform guests with children that this space is not designed to be an especially child friendly (it has high end art, plants, and vintage items within reach of small hands), and you may need to keep a close eye and move things out of reach during your stay. We ask that you be the judge of whether this is an appropriate space for your individual child to stay, as you'll be responsible for any damages. The Desert Compass is a boutique vacation rental property with a communal outdoor garden and pool. There are 6 total suites on the property, each with full private kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. Our entire property is surrounded by a 6 ft tall privacy wall with gated keypad access. Guests have private access to the Rattlesnake Suite, which is located in a standalone building with no shared walls and a private outdoor patio. PARKING There is *one* gated off-street parking space available on site per suite. Our parking spaces are suited for any regular sized vehicle (car, truck, SUV, up to a Sprinter van size) but unfortunately due to our narrow parking areas we cannot accommodate larger vehicles such as motorhomes, uhauls, or trailers. Additional parking is available for free on the street or in the Old Town paid lot across the street. The Desert Compass is an independent hospitality experience. Each of our 6 suites have their own front doors with keypad code access, so you can check-in at your convenience. We do not live on site, but our manager checks in at the property regularly, and we are available by text/phone should a question or concern arise! The Desert Compass is located in historic Old Town, Albuquerque. Directly across the street is Tiguex Park, the entrance to historic Old Town plaza, the Albuquerque Museum, and a block away is the Museum of Natural History, Explora Science Museum, and Sawmill neighborhood, with the newly built Sawmill Market - an upscale food hall featuring some of the city's best food and drinks. Historic Old Town has been the heart of Albuquerque since the city was founded here in 1706. Today, Old Town is the city's cultural center, with numerous museums and more than 100 shops, galleries and restaurants. Old Town’s narrow streets and century-old adobe houses are home to New Mexican eateries serving enchiladas and sopapilla pastries, and tiny artisan shops selling jewelry, rugs and pottery. Old Town Plaza is a charming spot overlooked by the 18th-century San Felipe de Neri Church. Nearby, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science has dinosaur skeletons, while the Albuquerque Museum displays Southwestern art. The Desert Compass is located about a 1 minute drive from a major highway (I-40), and a few minutes walk from historic Route 66 (Central Ave), which has the city's best public transit to all of the best sites (ART bus and Rapid Ride). Additionally, there are bikes and scooters available for day use nearby. You can easily see many of Albuquerque's best attractions from The Desert Compass without a vehicle. You will want a vehicle if your plans include exploring some of the city's surrounding sites (hiking, petroglyphs, Jemez Springs, etc). The Rattlesnake Suite is located in the oldest building on our property (once rumored to be a local tack shop where people would hitch their horses). Due to the historic nature of the structure, we do not recommend this space for guests taller than 6 feet as the ceiling is low in a few places. We use high quality PF Candle diffusers made from natural essential oils in our rooms to provide a mild, pleasant piñon scent. For guests with chemical sensitivities, we can remove the diffusers at your request with 24 hours notice, but we cannot make any guarantees about a fragrance or chemical free space. Exterior security cameras are located in the public outdoor spaces and parking areas of the property. Our properties are regularly treated with organic, non-toxic (but very effective!) pest repellent. Still, this property is over 100 years old and is located in a historic neighborhood in the high desert. Bugs are a part of life here in the southwest. While we make every effort to keep it spotless for guests, we cannot completely control nature and therefore you may see the occasional bug, especially cockroaches. Please be aware of this and make sure you're ok with the possibility before booking.
