Himalayan Homestay in Matli Village, Uttarkashi

Stephen's place in Matli, is a guest suite with a bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom, nestled in a quiet neighbourhood in the village. The space is located amongst families who are Matli's ceremonial musicians, allowing guests the opportunity to experience a touch of authentic Gharwalli culture, if they should so chose. The space Useful details * I only accept bookings for a minimum 3 night stay as I don’t hire caretakers and cleaners. The Airbnb’s are not my main work, and since I do all the preparation myself, hosting for 1-2 night stays takes up too much of my time. * Cooking vessels and related items are in abundance, as are storage containers and jars, 52ltr OTG oven, mixer/grinder/blender, and small coffee maker (please see images and read detailed description in the following paragraphs). Unless a uniquely personal appliance, it's highly unlikely you'll need to carry any of your own. * The house has an Airtel fibernet connection (40-50 mbps). On request speeds can be increased to 100mbps (guests are expected to cover the cost difference, 1500 INR per month). * The washing machine is at my place, a hop, skip, and a jump away. It is easily accessible and guests are welcome to use it an any time of the day. The Space The bedroom is furnished simply, two single beds with attached luggage drawers, an additional single bed which can function as a couch, and a bean bag. Alternatively, two of the single beds can be converted into a double, should you prefer that. The lighting in the room is warm yellow, including the option of a separate night light, and a table lamp placed on a bedside table. The ceiling fan is useful during late spring and summer (April - September). In Autumn, Winter and early Spring (October - March), it tends to look a little silly, perching silently up on the roof. A revolving hot air column is available during these cold months. For those who like to sing and play an instrument, and who PROMISE not to disturb neighbors with their undoubtedly amazing skills, a guitar and ukulele can be added into the room. A narrow room separates the bedroom from the kitchen and bathroom, where a cupboard can be used to store or hang clothes. Clothes hangers are placed inside the cupboard. The refrigerator has a fresh tray of fruit which will include a selection of whatever is available, according to the season. A fresh carton of milk and water bottles are a part of the package. This is useful, for guests who check in late night, and who prefer their coffee, first thing in the morning, as it saves non-morning people the hassle of groggily stumbling towards a shop. The kitchen is equipped with the following * Refrigerator (in the narrow hallway, as described above) * Water filer * 52ltr OTG oven with all baking utilities (Baking trays: non stick and glass, oven toaster grill, crumb tray, baking sheets, mittens, measuring spoons, weighing scale) * Mixer/grinder/blender * French press for the "coffeeholic" in you! * gas stove * water filter * electric kettle, * every conceiveable pan, and a pressure cooker * an assortment of plates, mugs, cutlery and cooking utensils. Filtered coffee, Tea, Sugar, Salt, Pepper, Chilli Powder and Oil are included for those who may wish to cook. The bathroom is pink tiled, with an Indian style lavatory and buckets for bathing. As is with typical Gharwalli design, the sink is not located in the bathroom, but just outside, in the narrow room separating the bedroom and kitchen. A large mirror is included in the bathroom, and next to the sink as well. A work station (desk and comfortable bamboo "mudda" chair) are set up on the porch, along with a zero gravity reclining lounge chair. The porch offers beautiful views of the mountain ranges around, and a dreamy location both to work from and sit with a cup of coffee in the morning. The guest-suite is directly in front of Stephen's house, which is a separate property on a slightly higher elevation. Guests are welcome to drop in for any assistance, to use the washing machine, explore his musical instruments, or just to hang out and and chit-chat. A wide assortment of games and toys are available, on request. Several of these are suitable for young children, as well. Guest access You'll have the full run of the guest suite during your stay. There is a patio-terrace which is nice to sit out on after dusk and watch the stars on a clear night. Two special star-gazing chairs are available on request. You'll also have access to Stephen's house, in the garden behind the guest-suite. The washing machine is located here, should you need to do laundry. This house has a beautiful garden set among fruit trees, and also a music therapy room, where guests are encouraged to check out his collection of therapeutic instruments, while he is around.
