Description
Stunning views of Ullswater... Very special... Perfect... Well equipped... Spotless and clean... Fantastic host... No picture of our panoramic view can really do justice to The Garden Flat. But we hope those words from our most recent reviews do. The flat is in an elevated 19th century former hunting lodge. The Ullswater Way walking route is at the end of the drive. Down the hill is the Brackenrigg Inn, with its own microbrewery, and Another Place, with lake swimming and spa facilities. The space The Garden Flat is a compact and very cosy one-bedroom flat with excellent facilities overlooking the lake that Wordsworth called the 'most beautiful' of them all. Bustling Pooley Bridge with its famous shops and tea rooms by the river – is less than two miles away. There is an impressive new stainless steel bridge built to replace the 300-year-old one swept away by floods in 2015. From the flat you can easily reach attractions like Aira Force waterfall, owned by the National Trust, and the Ullswater Steamers. You can ride, cycle, fish, sail, paddleboard or even wild swim nearby at Another Place hotel, which has fine dining and great bar food. The Garden Flat is great base from which to explore the rest of the Lake District including Keswick, Windermere, Buttermere and Grasmere – all around a scenic 40 minute drive away. Other great places to eat include 1863 Bistro in Pooley Bridge and Askham Hall. Historic houses Dalemain (5mins by car) and Lowther Castle (20mins) are close too. Penrith, the nearest town, has excellent shopping facilities and a great Tourist Information Centre. As well as a Sainsbury's and Morrisons, there are brilliant regional stores like Booths and Cranstons Cumbrian Foodhall. Before arriving you could also stock up at the renowned Tebay Services near Shap on the M6, a family-owned site with its own farm and butcher. The company also owns the petrol station and store at Rheged arts centre you'll pass as you head from Penrith to Watermillock. There's great local food and drink on sale. Guest access We have our own parking space on site. Other things to note This is a new listing for an established holiday let: The Garden Flat overlooking Ullswater. I bought it in 2019 and have made lots of improvements. Until now I have co-hosted with the former owner so I could keep reviews and let people see the story unfold. It's time to simplify, though. For now both should be visible as I change over (and begin to take bookings for mid-November on this new listing), so please read the reviews there. I look forward to hosting you.
