Rural retreat I with amazing mountain and seaview

An oasis of calm for lovers of unspoiled nature on the foothills of a mountain overlooking olive groves, the sea, 2.5 km of the beach. We refurbished our unique family stone house with love for its heritage, adding a touch of timeless minimalist design and modern conveniences. Because of the thick walls, bedroom 2 connects to the rest of the house externally, see photos. Mediterranean fruit trees offer shadow & their fruits. Pick them up! The space Once upon a time The main house was built sometime in the 19th century entirely with local materials: stones from the surrounding mountain, sand, clay and wood from family-grown cypresses. A characteristic exception is the “korniza”, the sculpted plaster frieze on the front wall, a rarity in northern Corfu and more usually an element of an aristocratic city house. You can still trace the gradual growth of the house in the patterns of the stones in the side wall. The current state We have refurbished the house with love for its heritage keeping its shape and layout intact, and avoiding modernizing trends such as extensive glass surfaces. The house therefore remains authentic and unique. A timeless element are the marvellous pink and white checkerboard marble floors applied in the ground floor rooms. Pink marble was widely used in the city of Corfu during the Venetian era. You will notice in the older parts of Corfu town where it is even used for paving the sidewalks. In our latest renovation (2022) we enlarged and upgraded the kitchen keeping the original style. The entirely redesigned cooking area sports a stylish marble counter top and brand-new equipment: induction hobs, magnetron/oven combo and built-in refrigerator. The layout of the rooms Both the kitchen and the downstairs bedroom (2) are on the ground floor, but differ in level as the house was built against the mountain slope (see the cover photo). The kitchen leads to the bathroom and the spacious upstairs bedroom (1) with handmade iron bed and bedside tables designed by Volcano and a brand-new comfortable mattress. Bedroom 2 has two single beds with matrasses with natural fillings. PLEASE NOTE: Bedroom 2 has its own separate entrance and connects to the rest of the house only via the outside steps. Because of the original construction with stone walls of the house an internal connection was not feasible. The guest house On the third terrace of the property there is a guest house, where the washing mashing, the barbecue and iron facilities are for guest of Rural Retreat I ., and Rural Retreat II., The terraces, the garden, the trees You will notice some big rocks we left intact when levelling the mountainside to create the terraces, preserving a sense of rural nature. We are also very proud of the large variety of fruit trees in our property: a lemon, pomegranate, mulberry, almond, laurel, two plum trees (white and blues fruits) & the local type of tzitzifia tree, two olive trees and several Judas trees, those last in our yard behind the back fence! You are welcome to pick fruits from the trees if ripe during your stay! For whom The property is ideally suited for those seeking privacy, outdoor life, tranquillity, the sounds of nature and beautiful sunsets. It is far away from the touristic bustle, yet still close to the seaside, beaches and all amenities. Shops, restaurants and nightlife just 10 min away by car. There is a tavern in walking distance (500 m) with a marvellous sea view and traditional food! Guest access - All guests have access to the main house and all the terraces. - All guests have access to the guest house for the use of the washing machine - Accommodation in the guest house, however, is only made available for parties of more than 4 persons. - Should parties of 4 or fewer persons wish to use the guest house for accommodation they can do so at the stated additional cost by booking the required number of “virtual” guests to make up the required minimum of 5 guests. Other things to note The upstairs bedroom is equipped with a new A/C. The two ground floor spaces -- the kitchen and bedroom 2 -- remain naturally cool even on the hottest days. NO BOTTLED WATER NECESSARY! The running water in our village--coming from a mountain spring --is tasty, light, and clean (not so in Acharavi) . Therefore, please do not bother with big plastic water bottles! Safe-cleaning protocol: We clean the house using disinfectants approved by the WHO, the Greek government and the Airbnb protocol. We air the whole house for hours, clean everything thoroughly, and wash the bed linen in 60+ C and iron them. Registration Details 00002120965
