TERATAK DAMAI LANGKAWI, Rustic Rural Retreat are 6 unique self-catering Guesthouse cottages and private home on 1.25 acres of private gated compound surrounded by paddy (rice) fields and verdant gardens in a village near the beach. The space DAMAI 2, our rustic contemporary "kampung" (village) Cottage Suite with enclosed private veranda sleeps 3 to a room. This spacious (500sq ft) suite with full room amenities and free WiFi, boasts a ceiling height of 20ft is fan cooled and requires no air-conditioning. The double doors are screened (mosquito screen) to allow you to sleep with it open at night for air-flow. It is furnished with 1 king-sized bed, 1 single bed, hot-shower, electric kettle, toaster, fridge, microwave, utensils, coffee & tea, drinking water & mango cordial. This unit does not have a gas stove for cooking. Because we are still surrounded by paddy fields and our 1.25 acre gardens are landscaped and planted with various fruit trees, wild local berry bushes, tropical fragrant flowers and also because we have retained the old naturally grown local berry trees, our land is a sanctuary & pitstop for migratory birds, fruit bats, squirrels & the elusive colugo amongst other wildlife. We also have a few very friendly family cats that roam free who help hunt & cull critters on our grounds. If you love places with natural environment & want to experience a slice of life living in a farming/fishing village in rural northern Malaysia this is the place for you. Daily daytime rural life noises of farmers working & tending their lands, children playing, the distant call to prayer from the mosque within the village, neighbouring farm animals including the unique sounds of the shy and gentle Water buffaloes are to be expected; embrace it as part of the unique localised experience! Although it can be very quiet at night, do expect sounds of nocturnal wildlife & some animal activities. We also provide complimentary use of insect repellent for both body and environment and mosquito coils for the outdoor areas. Billion Supermarket, Kedawang Supermarket & Eco-Fresh about 5 minutes away from our place TERATAK DAMAI LANGKAWI by scooter or car is where you can shop for vegetables, milk and various groceries. Cemara Pharmacy an easy 5 minute ride by scooter or car from our place next to Cenang Supermarket is where you can find high SPF, up to 130SPF Sunscreen, personal insect repellent and other medication. The Petrol/Gas station PETRONAS Kedawang is located about 3 minutes away by car or scooter from our place. A local area map is available in your cottage marked with all the village sights, various local warungs which sell local food, savoury and sweet desserts made by women in the surrounding villages and the locally famous Pak Long Sate about 2 minutes by scooter or 15 minute stroll from our place within the village open daily in the evenings. Cenang beach is an easy 5 minutes ride by scooter or car about 2.5km away from our place. GRAB car is easily available on the island for those without transport, however hiring your own scooter or small car is the recommended best way to travel around the island for those with adventure in their hearts and a love of exploring a rural island. The Malay word "Teratak" is used to describe temporary dwellings in an orchard and "Damai" in malay means "Peace". Kedawang Supermarket along Jalan Kedawang (Route 116) and Cenang Supermarket (Route 115) where you can get your dry goods, Cemara Pharmacy (Route 115) and a village Laundry are only 5-10 minutes away by bicycle. For those wanting to try local food, there are many warungs or local eateries along Jalan Kedawang (Route 116) after the PETRONAS petrol station and Jalan Kuala Muda (Route 115) after Bon Ton. There is also a Night Market every Tuesday night with a colourful assortment of local food & wares which is also 5-10 minutes away by bicycle along Jalan Kedawang (Route 116). Take a walk or scooter through the peaceful village roads, take part in the many nature activities available on the island (Check out WENDY NATURE GUIDE online), have a massage or simply lay in bed, read, enjoy the breeze & allow the gentle coo of the wood pigeons to lull you to sleep. Being a tropical island surrounded by untouched nature and the Geopark a UNESCO Heritage Site, geckos, mosquitoes and bugs are a fact of life on the island.
