Description

Our lovely old farmhouse is situated in the Vale of Avalon surrounded by apple orchards & gardens. Why not spend your evening by the fire pit watching the sunset or playing croquet as the BBQ sizzles nearby. The house has wood burners in the sitting room & dining room. Electric Aga keeps the kitchen/breakfast room a warm & welcoming space to gather in whatever the season. The space Our wonderful farmhouse was built in the 16th from the stones of Glastonbury Abbey. The elm beamed sitting room has an inglenook fireplace and wood burner. The farmhouse kitchen overlooks the gardens and croquet lawn and BBQ. Off the kitchen is the dining room with a 12 seater table and woodburner. We have 5 double bedrooms, bathroom with shower, bedroom with sink & WC along with shower room - we understand that there is nothing suitable with this accommodation nearby for an elderly person with a shower room and double bedroom on the ground floor. In the grounds is the large stone built fire pit & badminton court (grass). The farmhouse is set in a working countryside environment where, depending on the season, you will see & hear tractors driving along the country road, cows and flocks of sheep in the fields opposite. We also have our own sheep (numbers vary according to the season) and the horses live in the paddocks and the stables. Closer by are the friendly chickens who will call by during the day! Guest access You have full access to the grounds but be mindful of the horses that are stabled nearby. Our guests, in particular, children must not enter the stables for obvious health and safety reasons. We request that children must be accompanied when they are out in the gardens. There is plenty of parking outside. Glastonbury and Street is 10 minutes by car, approximately 45 minute walk. Other popular places that our guests have visited - Wells (20 mins drive), Bath (45 mins), Lyme Regis (45 mins), Cheddar Gorge (40 mins). Local pubs and restaurants: 1. Our local pub is The Lion in West Pennard. Good restaurant quality evening meals (limited vegetarian menu). Simple & limited lunchtime menu. Highly recommended by several past guests. 25 minute walk or 5 minute drive. 2. The Red Lion in Babcary. 10 - 15 minutes drive. Very good quality food & a popular venue with locals. 3. The White Hart in Somerton. 20 - 30 minutes drive. Previous guest's feedback - 'the White Hart in Somerton was superb!' Restaurants: 1. Hundred Monkeys, Glastonbury. Caters for vegetarian etc. Casual coffee shop & light meals. 2. The Newt, Bruton. Wonderful setting (gardens/grounds/buildings). Fine dining in the hotel & great quality food in the garden restaurant. highly recommend a lunch time visit. 3. At The Chapel, Bruton. Popular venue. We have a list of local taxi companies . Other things to note The swimming pool will not be available until 2026 (please check on dates). It is being rebuilt with works on hold until the spring 2026. Steamer chairs and sun loungers as well as a hammock are available for your use. There is a badminton court (not usually available during the winter). Please note that neither court is professionally laid out and the surface is uneven but fun to play on. In addition, we have a large stone built fire pit and also a croquet lawn. Check-in (4pm): We always try to welcome you on your arrival or help you with anything that you might need. If you think you will arrive later, if possible let us know so that we can try to stay on to see you. There is a house manual that sets out everything you may need to know during your stay. We work hard to ensure that our guests privacy is respected during your stay whilst ensuring that the grounds are maintained to the highest standard - In the summer months the hanging baskets and plant pots need to be watered, grass cut and general maintenance carried out. It's not always possible to tell you in advance when this will occur. Note, There is an annex/cottage that provides another bedroom, shower room and sitting room/kitchen and it can be booked with the house - see our listing 'Grade II Listed Farmhouse, Glastonbury (12 guests)' for more information. Please note, you need to contact us before making your booking to confirm whether the annex will be occupied during your stay. You can request that the cottage be blocked from bookings during your stay. We (William & I) use the cottage and may stay in it during your stay in order to look after the grounds and gardens. Yoga sessions are available during your stay but please enquire before booking. Don't forget your travel insurance.
