Description
Fall asleep to the sound of waves on shingle in this stunning, hand-crafted oak shepherd’s hut. In winter the Hut is cosy with double glazing, a wood burner plus radiator. In summer relax on the deck to enjoy glorious views of Lyme Bay on the World Heritage Jurassic Coast. Nestling in my garden, Chesil Beach and the South West Coast Path are 30 seconds away down a private path. Watch magnificent sunsets over the bay and enjoy stargazing in our dark skies. The space The hut was built in September 2017 by Blackdown Shepherd Huts of Ilminster, Somerset. The interior and exterior wood cladding is French oak with sheep’s wool insulation. Inside, the main area contains a dining table and bench seats, woodburner and kitchenette with sink, combination oven and fridge. There is a cupboard with hanging rail for clothes and a shower room and WC. The dining table folds down and a full size double bed pulls out. There is a USB socket by the bed, electric lighting, a gas boiler for hot water and alternative heating by oil-filled radiator. I supply a (mostly homemade) breakfast of sourdough bread with jam and honey (from my bees), cereals, fruit, yogurt and orange juice. Tea, coffee and milk are also supplied. Gluten free and vegan diets catered for - please let me know. Outside there is a decking area with a dining table and chairs plus sun loungers for those warm days and a gas BBQ. Guests have sole use of the back garden and the large pergola with seating. Parking is on a paved drive with a path to the hut. Guest access There is a selection of guide books, maps, local walks and novels in the hut. There is an iPhone dock with speakers but no TV, good WiFi but limited mobile signal. The Hut is on social media for up to date local events, photos and places to visit. Guests can reach the Chesil Beach by a short private path through the garden. Other things to note Chesil Beach is a shelving shingle beach with strong currents. Swimming is possible when the sea is calm but guests should be aware that they will be out of their depth in just a few steps - please use caution. When the sea is rough please stay a safe distance away from the water’s edge. When visiting other beaches please check tide times if walking and adhere to safety notices. The cliffs from Lyme Regis to West Bay are unstable and there are frequent cliff falls. Stay a safe distance away from cliffs and check safety notices.
