The Old Workshop is a self contained getaway on our organic smallholding in the beautiful Somerset countryside, tucked away down quiet country lanes. It's ideal for those who want a restorative and peaceful break, surrounded by nature; with stunning views of big skies and the Quantock Hills, plus all the creature comforts including a four poster bed and a jacuzzi bath. The space With a four-poster bed and jacuzzi bath, the Old Workshop is a very comfortable, highly sustainable and stylish extension to our traditional Somerset farmhouse. As well as solar panels generating electricity, the Old Workshop is heated by an air source heat pump. Many of the furnishings are up-cycled and it is clad in sustainable British cedar, the roof tiles were reclaimed from nearby. We offer a discount for stays of a week or more. We have a dog, Midge, who is very friendly though a little excitable. She is not allowed in the Old Workshop, though may try to convince you otherwise! Sorry, but it means we can't welcome other dogs. We also have chickens, and sometimes sheep or pigs. You are welcome to visit them. The Old Workshop is ideal for short breaks if you enjoy somewhere quiet & like to get out and about; there are a few short walks accessible from the property. Keep your eyes open & you might see the wildlife on our doorstep; newts, hedgehogs, hummingbird hawk moths, glow worms, grass snakes, frogs, bats, green woodpecker, badger, foxes, wrens, swallows and slow worms all visit the garden at some point through out the year. The beautiful vale that we’re situated in is called Billicombe and our little hamlet is Tapmoor. We are on the side of the Polden Hills, facing south west towards the Quantock Hills. Clarks Outlet Shopping is 6 miles away, Glastonbury with its famous Tor is 7 miles away and Wells, the smallest city in England and it’s Cathedral, another 7 miles further on. There are a number of internationally renowned nature reserves close by, including Westhay, Ham Wall and Greylake. We're ideally located for visiting the Starling murmurations in autumn and winter. The site of the last battle on English soil – the Battle of Sedgemoor in 1685 – is a few miles across the Levels at Westonzoyland. King Alfred burned the cakes at Burrowbridge, just off the road to Taunton. The world famous Cheddar Gorge is a short drive across the Somerset levels; the cheese caves are worth a visit on a wet day. There are a number of National Trust properties within an hour’s drive, including Lytes Cary, Barrington Court, Montecute, Tyntesfield and Dunster Castle. We are also conveniently situated for work related stays as we are 10 minutes from Junction 23 off the M5 and have Hinkley park and ride and Gravity Business Park close by. The Ring Of Bells in Moorlinch is our nearest pub – a short walk through the village; with other village pubs nearby. Gwilliams in Edington is a well stocked general store 2 miles away. Guest access There is one parking space for you in our yard, which is off the road and behind electric gates. You are welcome to enjoy our garden and 3-acre organic smallholding during your stay. There are good country walks from The Old Workshop. We get reasonable mobile reception, but it somewhat depends on your network provider. High speed WiFi is available. Other things to note Please note that, whilst there is a kettle, fridge, microwave and crockery, The Old Workshop is on a room only basis. There is a small store a couple of miles away that sells provisions, or do bring your own.
