Description

Quaint old 1-story row house, 1LDK, with small private garden, around a 15-minute walk from JR Enmachi or Uzumasa Tenjingawa subway. **PLEASE check Maneki Machiya on map for specific location. Fiber LAN & Wifi. Quiet, traditional neighborhood. Peaceful retreat in beautiful historic Kyoto. 2 basic bicycles provided, with signed agreement, for use entirely at guests’ own risk. Guesthouse proceeds support cat rescue org located in neighborhood. Reservations available for visits to cat play area. The space All of the rooms can be separated by sliding doors. This house has a 3 guest maximum occupancy with 1 double bed and one single futon available upon request (dependent on number of reserved guests). We can only accept the number of guests included on the booking. We cannot provide 3 separate beds, and using the sofa as an extra bed is not allowed. The default setting for two guests is one double bed. Please let us know in advance if a different setting is needed. Please note that setting the single futon will reduce the space in the house, and may require removing other furniture. This is an old Japanese house, in a residential neighborhood, simple and charming. It is comfortable for those not seeking luxury or a modern environment, and for those who prefer something quirky to something smooth and polished. Because it is an older house, with attached garden, it is sometimes difficult to keep all of nature outside--we have repellents on hand. There is also a bit of wildlife living in the area, and you may hear weasels or civets on the roof. Please be warned: It can be a bit cold and difficult to heat thoroughly during the winter months, as well as the opposite during the summer, especially in the bathroom and toilet areas. Due to age, the metal bathtub has dome discoloration and scratches that cannot be removed. There is one new air conditioning/heating unit installed in the main room/bedroom. There is another unit in the front room. There is also a gas heater installed that can provide additional warmth for the central area of the house. The TV in the house is Chromecast capable only, so you will need your own device to view anything. Guest access This is an independent house, and the group or persons booking this listing have private access to the entire space. Host lives in a separate house within sight, not in this rental house. The house includes equipped kitchen, washing machine, wi-fi, private garden, and 2 bicycles to be used entirely at guests’ own risk. Additional bicycles may be provided according to availability, number of guests, and scheduling. Please be sure to book the correct number of guests in your party, even if traveling with children. We cannot accept additional guests arriving without prior notice, and we will only prepare the number of beds, towels, etc., in relation to the number of guests booked. Unless otherwise notified, we will prepare the house according to the default setting, which is one double bed for 2 guests. All people staying in the house, for any period of time, are required to be added to the reservation, per Kyoto city government regulations. Other things to note When a booking is completed, you will be asked to provide a passport photo which matches the information on your Airbnb account. If your profile does not include a photo and/or we do not receive a passport photo after booking is completed, we will reach out to let you know that a profile and passport photo are required for booking. If a profile photo is not added in a timely manner, and/or the information on passport does not match that on the Airbnb account, Airbnb may cancel this booking. ***You will be required to show your passport (or the government issued ID) on arrival, as well as everyone else’s passports in your group, per Kyoto city requirements. This ID must match the information and photo provided on your Airbnb profile, or we will immediately contact Airbnb. There will be no exceptions.*** During the daytime, you may hear children’s voices from the nearby kindergarten. There might also be construction happening in the surrounding area from time to time. However, evenings are extremely quiet. Due this aspect, we require all guests to check in before 10:30pm. If you are delayed for any reason at all, and hope to check in after 10:30pm, you will need to pay a late fee on arrival, to cover extra staff costs. City regulations require us to meet guests in person. This means we will ask you to schedule an arrival time, as someone will need to wait for you. If you know that you won’t be able to make it by the scheduled time, you will need to contact us as soon as possible in order to reschedule. Otherwise, you will need to wait for staff to return, which could take 30 minutes or longer. Smoking is not allowed (or any flames whatsoever, including candles or incense,) anywhere inside the houses or gardens. We will strongly enforce this policy, since our mostly wooden buildings are very old and there is a safety risk for the entire neighborhood. If there is any smoking at all detected in buildings or gardens, we may ask guests to leave and/or charge additional cleaning fees. We do allow smoking outside on the street in front of the houses, on one specific covered bench. There are ashtrays on either side, and cigarette butts must be disposed of safely. Please ask for directions at check in. We operate along common Airbnb practices, rather than that of hotels. Guests are responsible for leaving the house tidy, with no unwashed dishes, and trash sorted/disposed of properly. No items requiring special trash disposal can be left behind without prior arrangements. We do not provide new towels or house cleaning on a daily basis. Any house cleaning, outside the one time cleaning preparation paid for in the booking, must be arranged on a paid basis. For stays of 7 days or longer, guests are provided with an extra set of sheets and towels for self laundering in the house. Our bed linens are 100% cotton, and we do not iron them. There may be wrinkles. We do not provide toothpaste, disposable toothbrushes, or combs. We cannot accept packages, luggage, nor make reservations or phone calls on behalf of guests, nor can our phone number be used for these aspects. There are several areas in the house with one or two steps up or down, as well as somewhat narrow hallways or walkways. The doorways are lower than average, and care may need to be taken while moving around the house. Risk and oversight of all facilities’ use must be accepted entirely by guests. Street security cameras are in place as required by Kyoto city, for monitoring any public safety issues. Visitors are only allowed with host’s permission. It is important to note (again) that this is an old wooden Japanese house and impossible to heat thoroughly in colder months. It can also be a bit damp. While localized heating sources and warm bedding are supplied, guests who find cold particularly intolerable may not be comfortable. We have other houses, so please compare this listing with The Charming Kyoto Machiya, The Simple Kyoto Machiya, the Pleasant Kyoto Machiya, and The Cozy Kyoto Cottage.
