The space Perched high up on a steep hillside at an altitude of over 700m, the Tree House Hideaway is located within the foothills of the majestic Chiang Dao Mountain range (1.5hr drive North of Chiang Mai) and overlooks the village of Mae Mae (a small community of 200 people) The village is made up of the lowland Thai. The majority of whom make a living from the cultivation of fruit, Coffee and Olong Tea. The THH comes fully equipped with private bedrooms with shared bathrooms and a spacious terrace giving you a panoramic view of the beautiful mountain valley. As you can see from the pictures on the above listing the structure is actually supported on large wooden stilts. However, the panoramic views over an unspoilt forested valley and trees everywhere you look means that the best description for the structure is a Tree House. If you are looking for a tree house that is physically perched up in a tree then this might not be place for you. Join In Tours: we can accept multiple bookings for the same date. The Tree House Hideaway is operated using a tour system, therefore even if the calendar on airbnb states that the dates you are interested in are full, please send us a message and we will let you know if you can join in with an already confirmed tour booking. Pricing: Our pricing works on a sliding scale, based on how many people are in your group and the amount of nights you intend to stay at the Tree House. The listed price of 3,500 Thai baht is per person for a couple staying 1 night at the Tree House. If you are wanting to stay more than one night or there are more than two people in your group then please contact us directly and we will quote you a price for your stay. Price includes: round trip transportation, all meals at the Tree House, trekking to local waterfall and an English speaking guide. Accommodation In total the tree house has 4 private rooms, which sleeps two people each. We also have a large family room which can sleep up to 8 people comfortably. All rooms include blankets, pillows, clean bedding and mosquito nets. The tree house electrical power 24hrs a day, however, on the rare occasion that experience a power-cut, we provide you with torches. Guided Tours During your stay at the tree house you will be accompanied by an English speaking guide. They will act as a translator between you and the local villagers as well as join you on the trek to the waterfall and, for guests who are staying for two nights, accompany you on the day tour of Chiang Dao. All guides are fully trained with official licenses and can provide many interesting insights into the local area. Transport Please note that the tree house is located 1.5hrs north of Chiang Mai in a remote mountain village, transport is comprised of either truck or minibus both of which are air conditioned. Guest access Facilities and Accommodation The THH is not a hotel, rooms are simple but functional. Each bedroom comes with clean bedding, mosquito net, table for storage and towels. In total we have 3 private double bedrooms in the main tree house complex, which can sleep two people per room. We also have a large private family room that can sleep a maximum of 8 people. The family room is often recommended for families with young children (1-5 yrs old) as it is very spacious and easy to take care of your children, should they wake in the night. Toilets in the main tree house structure are shared and have 3 hot showers. There are occasional power cuts, but they are usually rectified within a few hours. At the moment we do not have a back-up generator. There are torches at the Tree house, but please bring your own too should the power go out at night. Tree House Terrace The tree house terrace is where you will spend most of your time during your stay. It is a very spacious living area and is located on the lower level of the tree house, just below the sleeping area. There is a steep staircase leading down to the tree house, so those with young children will have to watch their children don’t try to navigate the stairs on their own. The terrace comes complete with two large dining tables, hammocks, fire pit and communal seating area. Families The Tree House is very popular with families from toddlers to teenagers, we have hosted them all. Of course for toddlers who like to wander, you will need to keep a close eye on them as there are some gaps in the main wrap around terrace barricade. For trekking it is advised to bring a back-pack for young children. Treks take between 2-3hrs on average. Trekking Trekking is one of the main activities at the THH, if you are not much of a trekker or have problems walking on uneven surfaces, then we either suggest only visiting the local school and village and then returning to the TH (walking time 30mins). If you really dislike walking then maybe the Tree House Tour is not for you. Treks are usually 2-3hrs in length and are medium to difficult in parts. Should you need them, we provide all guests with walking sticks. To a certain degree we can tailor the treks to suit your ability from ‘moderate’ to ‘tough’. The shortest trek usually takes at least 2hrs (not including time at waterfall). During the trek you will have to cross a few low level river crossings, you can either choose to take your shoes off and wade through the river or try to navigate the rocky stepping stones! If you have them, we highly recommend neoprene or amphibious shoes for the trekking. Food and Beverage All meals during your stay at the tree house are included in the price of the tour. All food is freshly prepared. We can cater to vegetarian and vegan guests. There is a small bar at the Tree House, which sells beer and soft drinks as well as snacks, e.g. crisps, peanuts and dried fruits. Fresh Thai Arabica coffee and tea are available for purchase throughout your stay at the THH. Drinking water is provided for free throughout your stay at the THH. The bar operates on an honesty system, in which you write down what you take and then pay on the day of your departure. During your stay During your stay you will have an English speaking host, who will be able to help translate and answer any questions you may have about the local village, Thai culture and any other curiosities you may have. Other things to note Essential Things to Bring •Bring light wearing shirts trousers/shorts for the trek. •Good walking shoes/boots are a must as well as mosquito repellent (Trainers are fine). •The tree house experiences cooler temps during Nov – Feb, so please bring a warm sweater and trousers for the evenings. If coming during the wet season May-October) then a light-weight rain jacket/poncho is recommended. •A swimming costume for bathing in the waterfalls. •Cards and other games for the evenings are always recommended. •Please bring a spare pair of shoes/sandals for wearing around the tree house complex •Please bring your own shampoo and shower gel. •If you are sensitive to the sounds of nature at night, then please bring your earplugs!
