It is based on an open concept with huge windows to the southern view of the lake and the western view of the fields and sunset. The cottage can sleep 7 adults. There is one private bedroom with a double bed. There is one double bed in a conner nook under the loft. There is a queen-sized bed in the loft. And there is a massive wrap around couch for sleeping as well. There are plenty of comfy sheets, pillows, duvets, blankets and towels. There are kayaks and a canoe, as well as lifejackets. There are comfortable Adirondack and Indonesian chairs. The overall feeling is of peace and tranquillity. The huge windows bring the outdoors inside where you can enjoy the ever changing and often quite dramatic sky. There is a massive deck (as big as the cottage) with fantastic views of the lake, sunrise and sunset. The cabin is a lovely place to be in all seasons. Most years it is accessible year-round. However, occasionally the Bateau Channel ices over. Check with us to ensure the channel is open and the Simcoe Island ferry is running. Guest access 4 kayaks, 1 canoe, 2 bicycles, comfy chairs, candles. Plenty of parking. Other things to note The house is not posh or fancy. It would not be suitable for those who love luxury, perfection and suburban settings. It is made for those who enjoy a humble home, nature, quiet, solitude, and fantastic views. It is for people who like to 'rough it' with the comfort of an indoor bathroom, fully equipped kitchen and washer-dryer. There is plenty of water drawn from the Lake Ontario from May until November. But the cottage depends on rainwater in a cistern in the colder months. Guests are advised to use it sparingly. Otherwise, they could run out. There is a good water purification system, and the water is of excellent quality. In addition, there is a Berkee water filter that delivers fine-tasting water. Secure access can be a challenge in harsh winters. Some years the ferry runs all year. But other years, the ice closes the channel for a period of up to 2 months between December and March. During this period the ferry cannot run. Islanders cross over the ice by vehicle when the ice is secure. Therefore, be advised that winter bookings may be cancelled if the ferry stops. Be sure to check with Sandra before you book in December, January, February and March. The Simcoe Island ferry starts early in the morning and closes most nights before midnight. There are no food stores on Simcoe Island. Bring the food and beverages you need. There is one food store on Wolfe Island (Fargos) and a few restaurants. I highly recommend The Hotel on Wolfe Island. The cottage is heated by electrical heaters. There is an airtight wood stove. Ask for support if you don't know how to use one. Sandra or a member of her family can walk you through the process of making your first fire.
