The accommodation, whilst not whole house, is a pleasant light and spacious room with double bed, sitting area, dining room table with two chairs, compact fridge, ceiling fan, and coffee maker. Guests have shared bathroom across the shared kitchen and are very welcome to use the kitchen for preparing their meals. A self-serve continental breakfast with coffee and tea is available for guests. For one or two persons sharing. A smaller bedroom, for one, is listed separately. The house is situated in the Taconic Mountains of western Vermont, in the centre of the Vermont lake district, at about a thousand feet with lovely views over the Adirondacks. Guests have use of the short hiking trails around the house, and there are many nearby interesting places to visit, for example a state park close by, historical places such as the nearby Battle of Hubbardton Visitor Centre, hiking on the Nature Conservancy land, and there is a large number of nearby beautiful lakes to visit. Lake Champlain is a short drive, with a ferry across to Fort Ticonderoga and the Adirondacks. Skiing in the Green Mountains is about an hour away. The room is light and spacious, one double bed. No pets due to wild animals in the vicinity (porcupine, bob cats etc) and very steep drops. Access to shared bathroom and shared kitchen and spacious deck. There are no buses in and around the village. Parking is easy, right at the house. This is my home so I am usually here to welcome guests and to help orientate them to the area. My neighbour is also available to give a warm welcome if I should be away. Set in beautiful countryside, there are nearby lakeside restaurants, a grocery store about twenty minute drive away, lots of excellent cycling, canoeing and kayaking opportunities. There are also kayaks here, but they are to be used entirely at guests' risk. Whilst there is no public transportation, our country lanes and roads are very quiet and peaceful, and driving anywhere is very enjoyable. There is easy parking by the house. In winter months after a snowfall, a 4X4 is advisable to get to house, but the roads are usually quickly ploughed to allow easy regular car access. Nevertheless driveway can be slippery, and care must be taken. An occasional black bear is seen on the property. Bear mace and bear bells (latter provided) are recommended if hiking deep in the forests. Wooden steps and decks are very slippery when wet. There are very steep drop offs at waterfalls and down to creek which can have a rapid flow, and the property is therefore, regretfully, not suitable for children. No pets, as there are steep drops and porcupines in the forests.
