Chapin House
1200 sq ft Craftsman home, 1 mile from All-Star Baseball Camp. Lovely front deck with wicker furniture & grill for BBQs and a lush back yard with picnic table for relaxing. The house is modern in decor, but still has some lovely old accents, such as the home's original claw-foot tub. Excellent pizza is a 500 yd walk away, Gilbert Lake with its beautiful walking path, boating, beach, & swimming area is a 10 min drive; Oneonta public swimming pool, grocery stores, & Neawha Park are 5 min away. You have access to the entire house, though I would ask that you not go into the basement or the garage, as this is where our belongings are stored while we are gone. This is a family neighborhood that is safe and quiet. We are very close to some beautiful areas to spend time - only 20 minutes to Cooperstown, but also very close to beautiful Gilbert Lake. We are near the west end of Oneonta that has several play parks and wonderful food, including the Undercover Eggplant - don't miss it! It's the best deli outside of NYC! Take away or sit-in service for soups and sandwiches that are so enormous, they are 2 meals! Vegan and GF options there and at the wide variety of restaurants in town, such as Simply Thai, the Yellow Deli, the B-Side (a bit more adult - great cocktails and live music), and the Autumn Cafe. I can't recommend the garbage wings (terrible name, but delicious sauce) at The Depot enough - and Wednesday is wing night! Also Brooks BBQ is good enough that people drive from all over to eat here - get the half chicken dinner - you won't be disappointed. You also have access to our grill, if you want to head to any of the 4 supermarkets in town (Hannaford, Price Chopper, Walmart, Aldi), and bring home steaks, seafood or Spiedies. These are a local hit - you can this chicken already marinaded from the store (Price Chopper's is best) and serve it up on Italian bread with creamy Italian salad dressing drizzled on top. Great Ice cream at the Golden Guernsey or if you want to travel a bit further away, the best ice cream and a beautiful mountain view at the Polar Bear Ice Cream shop on the road to Walton. Don't feel stuck with all the other baseball families - there are some realhidden gems around these small towns, like the authentic English pub in Hobart, The Bull and the Garland. Or head up to Fly Creek and go to the cider mill - a great day out for family and good food. They have picnic tables by a lake and dozens of kinds of ducks and geese there to feed. Tip: go inside and buy a cup of corn to feed them - cheaper than out of the dispenser at the lake. There is TV in the house and access to Netflix, but there is also a movie theatre in town if you need an evening's family entertainment. If you are dying for a coffee or a nice breakfast, try the Latte Lounge - next door is the Green Toad bookstore. Or, head up to the SUNY Oneonta Campus. There is a Starbucks inside the Union and a large lake (shaped like NY State) full of Koi; you can sit outside in the sun on the massive deck and feed the fish. I have a large container of fishfood on top of the piano - feel free to use it. Classes are out of session and you will have a chance to get away from the crowds. There is a landscaping company that will mow and care for the garden once a week. This shouldn't impact your stay and they will be on the grounds less than an hour.
