Experience Food, Palace & Nat'l Museum Steps Away!
Description
Experience traditional Cambodian city life in comfort! I just renovated this 1 bedroom riverside area flat (80 sq. m.) using the same architecture and giving it modern amenities. The flat is steps away from the National Museum and Royal Palace and there are dozens of restaurants, shops, etc. around. As a former guest said: "[you can] live like a local but with a bit of luxury," plus you are situated in the PRIME tourism area for easy sightseeing! It's like an "Experience" with no extra charge!! The space Location, location, location! For visitors to Phnom Penh, the location could hardly be better. I've renovated a 3rd floor unit in a historic apartment building in central Phnom Penh, kitty corner to the National Museum, and I tried to stay true to the original architecture while giving it some interesting features. I renovated the place without creating new walls or removing any original walls, and to make the most of natural light. The space has a modern bathroom, a small cooking area, a cozy large living area with bed, an office room and a pretty spacious balcony. I am especially proud of the faux white terrazzo bathroom and the large wooden Japanese-style window that allows natural light to flow into the living room. Liberal use of glass blocks allows for a lot of natural light to enter all areas of the flat while maintaining privacy. The living room and bedroom have air conditioners which help on warm Cambodian days (and nights). The entire place is roughly 80 sq. m. It's designed so that you will have privacy from the neighbors but also an opportunity to interact with them if you like, as the original architecture of the building encouraged residents to interact. There's also a few books, a smart tv, 20 Mb/s wifi, and DVDs available for your down time. What I plan to put in the future but doesn't exist at the moment is a laundry machine. There's plenty of space for hand washing in the apartment however. For food, the magnificent Futures Factory is across the street and there's dozens of foreign and local restaurants in all directions on 172 street, 178 street, the riverside, and street 13, including a cat cafe (cafe with cute cats inside) that a former guest really liked around the corner. There's a 24 hour minimart downstairs for any snacking, beverage, or toiletry needs, and a small fridge to keep things cold inside the apartment. I'm not planning to put cable tv or hot water in the apartment (my opinion is that the tropics are warm enough already), although there's a tv with a DVD player (no cable tv) and warmer showers can be had by showering during the daytime. Guest access To get to the apartment guests must be able to go up and down three flights of stairs, as they didn't design buildings with elevators back in the day (55 stairs according to a former guest's count). The staircase is more than 1 meter wide so it's quite decent compared to other places around here. There are several older Cambodian neighbors that do it daily which is inspiring! In the evenings around 11pm the common access to the stairway is locked but you will have a key to open it. Other things to note Do you remember your most memorable Airbnb travel experience? I do. Mine was in Myanmar and involved being near local people living their real lives that were so different than what I was used to. The real life sights, sounds and smells of the area impressed my memory and gave me a fuller travel experience than living in a hotel during my stay. This listing is in an authentic city apartment block and NOT a sterile 5 star hotel, and is IDEAL for visitors looking for something more than a traditional hotel experience and that want to EXPERIENCE Cambodian life as a resident while living like a tourist. The apartment comes with a regular supply drinking water, an electric cooker, small refrigerator, kettle, tea set, plates, bowls, forks, spoons, knives, cutting boards, pan, sheet, pillows, body wash, smart tv and towels. The apartment is located in an old building so some of the common areas are old and worn out. Common areas are safe but can be quite dark later at night because the Cambodian neighbors sleep early so sometimes guests use their phone light in the stairwell in case they arrive late. If you give me advance notice, I can try to arrange an airport pick up for you in a taxi for $25. There are fixed price taxis and tuk tuks available from the airport but I'm offering this service as a way for you to get to the flat easily without having to worry about getting lost and also so we can coordinate the key handover a bit better. If you need something else, feel free to ask me...
