More photos on Insta: houseoffigsfes The space Normally we live in the house (our room is on the terrace) and host guests in two double bedrooms on the same floor - both with private bathrooms. We can sometimes offer you private use of the whole house (3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms) at an additional cost. Please ask if you are interested. Photos of third terrace room are in the extra photos section. Please check whether this option is available. After 2 people there is a £18 per person charge Please note: This is a house for cat lovers as we have four cute & sociable cats living with us. It’s an old tall house with a LOT of stairs to the top of the house. Two double bedrooms are on the second floor. One double has an en-suite bathroom, the other its own dedicated bathroom close by. The house is called 'Dar Karmous' - House of Figs after a small square nearby which sells dried figs and dates. It is a typical family sized house, very tall with 5 floors including 2 plant filled terraces all arranged around a small central courtyard. This type of house is called a 'Dar' and is smaller than a Riad which usually has a central garden or courtyard with trees. Renovating the house a labour of love lasting many years! We used traditional techniques but with a modern aesthetic and have filled the house with handmade furniture, rugs, books for you to browse and treasures we have collected around the world. We love our house and hope you will too! The house is located in a quiet area but the main historic sights and souks for shopping are within a few minutes walk. Guest access You will have access to the whole house - the sitting area and kitchen are usually shared us unless you have agreed for private use or we are away. There is a fully equipped kitchen for you to use with range cooker, a separate guest fridge and plenty of utensils, pans and such, there are also several books on Moroccan cooking. There is a sitting area downstairs and wood burning stove which is lovely in the winter!. Two terraces at the top of the house for reading, drinking or eating whilst soaking up the views. If we are present, Ian will usually provide you with breakfast each morning. Other things to note This is a private family sized house rather than a Riad or hotel, we don't employ cooks or daily cleaning staff. We offer a simple breakfast of seasonal fruits, yougurt & honey, local bread & pastries, oranges for juicing, tea & coffee. When we are present to host , Ian usually serves breakfast, with lots of tasty cooked options and his homemade preserves . By request we can organise dinner at the house Please think of our host as someone on hand with lot's of local tips who can assist you during your stay. Staying in the heart of the Fes medina is an unforgettable experience - it's a bit like stepping back in time. It is a maze of streets that are like a labyrinth and the most map defying anywhere in Morocco! Be prepared to encounter tiny sometimes dark streets which only wide enough for one person or a donkey (which is the main way of transporting goods in and out of the city) Welcome to the largest car free city in the world! Do expect to get lost at least once and to be surprised by what you find behind small doors. Sometimes there is a secret garden or huge palace behind a very modest looking door. At night the medina looks very different when the shops are closed. It is possible to get a guide to walk with you to restaurants at night to be sure you go the right way.
