Both the exterior architectural elements and the frescoes that adorn the interior surfaces of the walls are preserved in very good condition. The frescoes, work of Antonios Domestichos of Crete, date back to 1665 and are characterized by an intense folk style, in which elements of the Cretan School style are preserved. There are also the church of the Assumption, built in 1694, the church of Taxiarchis dated in 1680 and the monastery of St. George of the 19th century, all in very good condition. But what fascinates the visitor at first glance are the Pyrgosika houses with the "scratchers», type of decoration of the facade with geometric shapes in black and white. The technique is based on the black sand of the coating, which, after carefully whitening, is scratched following simple or complex patterns and gives black themes on a white background reminiscent of the Italian sgraffiti.
