Description

The house is located in the southern part of the island of Chios, in the traditional mastic village ofPyrgi. Pyrgi is known for its traditional black and white scratches and for its world-famous Mastic. The house is located in the center of the village(next to the square) opposite the famous Tower from which took its name the village which was in fact a small castle. The Tower was built in the time of Genoese who were the masters of the island. The space The house is distinguished for its traditional architecture with rooms of high altitude and at the same time all modern amenities that can satisfy the demands of all guests. In the interior of the house there is a staircase that connects the living room, in which there is a bathroom and a bedroom with the 2 bedroom and the bathroom located on the upper floor. Other things to note The «painted village", as many call it due to the elaborate decorative motifs on the facades of the buildings, is the largest medieval village of Chios and is 25 km from the city. Despite all the changes brought about by time and human interventions, Pyrgi is still a living medieval legend. Its urban structure and architectural form are of enormous historical interest. Its fortification layout is representative to counter hostile raids. Many historical monuments are preserved in Pyrgi. The church of Agioi Apostoloi, a copy of the katholikon of the New Monastery, is an excellently preserved Byzantine monument, with abundant ceramic decoration, serrated tapes on the dome, with double marble columns and colorful bottles in the masonry. Its construction dates back to the 13th to 14th centuries. Both the exterior architectural elements and the frescoes that adorn the interior surfaces of the walls are preserved in very good condition. The frescoes, work of Antonios Domestichos of Crete, date back to 1665 and are characterized by an intense folk style, in which elements of the Cretan School style are preserved. There are also the church of the Assumption, built in 1694, the church of Taxiarchis dated in 1680 and the monastery of St. George of the 19th century, all in very good condition. But what fascinates the visitor at first glance are the Pyrgosika houses with the "scratchers», type of decoration of the facade with geometric shapes in black and white. The technique is based on the black sand of the coating, which, after carefully whitening, is scratched following simple or complex patterns and gives black themes on a white background reminiscent of the Italian sgraffiti. This technique of exterior decoration was loved by the locals and for this reason they kept it alive until today. Remember… The style used for the exterior decoration of the houses is unique.
