Rustic Riverside Mill Retreat

Step back in time at beautiful, historic Ashford Mills – mentioned in the Domesday Book. Set on the River Isle in Somerset, this 5-acre working smallholding is a peaceful, rustic retreat where nature, heritage, and adventure meet. Wander gardens with chickens, ponies, and goats. Enjoy fresh eggs, homegrown veg, wild swims or a kayak. We're right on National Cycle Route 33 and close to National Trust gems, cider mills, and pubs. Come to relax, reconnect, and slow down. The space The historic mill sleeps 8 with 4 double bedroom areas. Our guests range from couples seeking a romantic getaway to groups of friends and family looking to share time in a convivial environment. The internal structure has been kept as it would have been in the 16th century therefore the floors are open plan. This means in the winter months it is chilly. There is central heating and an Esse wood burning stove, but please be aware that is it a big space to heat. Ground Floor: Country kitchen with all essentials: sink, hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, crockery, and cutlery Separate double bedroom (annex room) with its own bath, sink, and WC First Floor: Double bed Bathroom with WC, shower, and sink Esse wood-burning stove Please note: Ceiling height on this floor is 5ft 5in Second Floor (Attic): Two king-size/twin beds (zip-and-link setup) Guest access We live in the adjacent cottage and are happy to help if needed, but you'll have full privacy during your stay. Guests are warmly encouraged to explore our gardens and paddocks — it’s all part of the experience! Please note that our animals roam freely, so don’t be surprised if goats, ponies, chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, or our dogs cross your path. Dogs are welcome, but only if you're fully confident that your dog will not chase or harm other animals. Dogs must be kept under control and on a lead at all times while outside, due to the presence of free-roaming animals. ⏰ Check-in & Check-out Check-in: From 3pm onwards Check-out: By 11am sharp Other things to note Ashford Mills is both our home and a working smallholding. We live onsite in the adjacent cottage, so you’ll likely see us pottering around outdoors — tending to animals, working in the garden, or (more often than not) getting covered in mud... me, not you! We’re always happy to answer questions, recommend local spots, or lend a hand if needed — but we’ll also respect your space and let you enjoy the peace and quiet of the mill in your own time.
