On the upper floor there is a bathroom, a master bedroom with a queen bed, a room with twin beds, and a single room with a bed. Other things to note Activities You can bike through the surronding woods, or on the bicycle lane running along the seafront all the way to the city of Viareggio. You can take long walks in the small roads surrounded by trees, in the natural reserve of Lake Porta, in the Migliarino-San Rossore Park, close to Viareggio. Th seafront is full with beach resorts, many of which have swimming pools and restaurants where you can taste delicious seafood. Within an hour of driving you can climb on the Alpi Apuane National Park, rich in hiking paths for both the strong and the lazy: via Vandelli, via Francigena, Passo degli Uncini (Hooks’ Pass), Campo Cecina. You will also find a botanical garden and the famous marble quarries. Sports facilities in the area include tennis courts and an olympic pool. There are golf clubs and surf schools. Local Food The area’s typical dishes are influenced by three regions which meet in this portion of Italy: Tuscany, Emilia and Liguria. In local diners and restaurants you will be able to taste tordelli (meat-filled handmade pasta), vegetable soups, meats, fresh fish, stuffed focaccia, and typical “testaroli al pesto”, a buckwheat medieval recipe. On the mountains you will have polenta with mushrooms, sausages, cured meats, locally made sheep cheeses, and deer. For those with a sweet tooth the area is rich in ice cream parlors, pastries and bakeries; for those who love strong food experiences we suggest a visit to Colonnata, home of the lard. Places To Visit The area is close to many destinations of tourist, artistic and cultural interest. Florence is an hour and fifteen minutes away. Lucca and Pisa are half an hour of driving away, the Cinque Terre at 45 minutes; alternatively, you can get to Cinque Terre with a ferry service beginning in June, with the Navigazione Golfo dei Poeti fleet. The marble quarries in Carrara and Puccini’s home in Torre del Lago with its music festival can be reached in 40 minutes. The beautiful art city of Pietrasanta or the ruins of Luni’s roman city are half an hour away. The Garfagnana valley with the famous Grotta del Vento is one hour away. If you love to shop Italian fashion you can get shortly to Forte dei Marmi which hosts a famous street market every Wednesday and Sunday.
