Whether it is peace and quiet you seek, or getting out and about in the Lakes, The Hayloft is the ideal springboard to the South Lakes Peninsula. The Hayloft is attached to the old Reading Room, which was formed soon after World War 1 as part of a network of meeting places by the charitable church (C. of E.) society, known as ‘Toc H’. This society had its origins in WW1 Belgium when a padre set up a place of refuge he named Talbot House (morse code name read as Toc H) behind the front line to give some respite to the battle weary troops. This idea took hold back in ’blighty’and spread across the country after the war, where it evolved through the decades and still survives to this day. The Hayloft has been converted to a very good specification, making it a comfortable and enjoyable stay. There are many cycle routes and walks in the area, or if it is good food and drink you seek, then you have two pubs within 200 yards in either direction of The Hayloft. Fishing can also be enjoyed on Urswick Tarn at £10 per day. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 350 yards. Free WiFi
