Cosy Victorian cottage by the Cumbrian Coast
Description
Refurbished Victorian cottage, a short walk from the beach, RSPB reserve on the cliff tops, Railway Station and Post Office with convenience store. Upstairs there are views of the sea, St Bees Head and the Isle of Man too on a clear day. The cottage was built in 1870 and we have furnished it in keeping with its period but the kitchen and bathroom have modern fittings. There is a garden area available to sit outside in summer. A wood-burning stove can be lit for cosy evenings on chillier days. The space St Bees is a great location to explore both Lakes and Coast and marks the beginning of Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk: there is also access to the English Coastal Path. The 11th century Priory, built with local red sandstone, has a Willis Organ and display about the finding of St Bees Man - a Norman knight. The historic public school was founded by Archbishop Grindal in 1583. Whitehaven is nearby and is a planned 18th century town with a history of shipbuilding, rum trade and smugglers. The Beacon Museum and Rum Story provide popular visitor attractions. West Cumbria also has a rich industrial heritage of both coal and iron-ore mining. Excellent pub food is available within easy reach, and there is a beach cafe with views over the Irish Sea. Guest access The whole of the cottage - all areas are available. Other things to note Free on-street car parking is available although not always directly outside the door. The free village car park which s available to residents and their guests is only a few minutes' walk away and means you can park off road. There are two short flights of stairs, one to the top floor is an open staircase with walls each side and a handrail. A short flight of steep steps leads to the back garden.
