From the artisans of Java to the farmers of northern Bali, this stunning 50-year old hand carved Gladak rests now in Sunset Sala. Made completely of teak wood, no nails were needed for the reconstruction of this unique home- its hand carved walls skilfully slotted together. The space Guest’s to Sunsetsala, a charming property laying in a valley of palm-dotted ricefields at the fringes of the traditional village of Sudaji, are offered the unique experience of spending a night in stunning work of Indonesian art. Carved by Javanese artesans, the Selat Bali Hand-carved Gladak is a uniquely constructed 4 x 5m room with attached bathroom and private 2x5m terrace. Made entirely entirely of teak wood the hand carved walls slot together around a raised platform of wooden floorboards. Covered by a high roof built over a carved central beam, the stunning walls and high roof permit the cool mountain air and relaxing sounds of nature to drift into a room equipped with charming wooden furnishing including a comfortable queen-sized bed protected with a mosquito net. The otherwise traditional structure has been modified to include electricity outlets, heated water and wifi access (50Mbps). From your large private deck you have immediate views of vegetable gardens set upon a backdrop of ricefields. You will observe local farmers going about their daily activities of cultivating the land according to traditional methods. Besides the Gladak there is a small, but equipped outdoor kitchenette under a charming wooden shed. When the farming day draws to a close you will be treated to stunning views of the sunset over over the mountains and valley, the song of birds and frogs interrupted only by the distant sound of chanting and gamelan music as the proud villagers keep Balinese religious traditions and art-forms alive. The Selat Bali Hand-carved Gladak is ideal for the guest appreciate of traditional artistry eager catch a glimpse of village life in rural Bali or find a tranquil base, surrounded by pristine nature, from which to explore northern Bali and the magnificent Sekempul waterfalls (a beautiful 20 minute motorbike drive through forests and villages). Guest access **MEALS NEED TO BE ORDERED ONE DAY IN ADVANCE** Amazingly flavourful traditional Balinese food available. Everything is cooked with fresh ingredients and made fully from scratch using only coconut oil and without MSG! Full breakfast is 50K per person and dinner is 95K per person- once you book we'll give you the menu options** As guests of Sunsetsala, the lucky occupants of our Selat Bali Hand-carved Gladak will have access to the kitchen facilities and surrounding fields through which to wander. The shared kitchen-dinging area is equipped with fridge, cooking space, dining area and sitting room. You can help yourself to coffee, tea and drinking water there. If you choose to have us make breakfast for you, it will be prepared freshly and served in the open dining area or on your balcony each morning. Breakfast is 50K IDR per person. Guests aiming to self-cater may wish to visit the charming local 'pasar' (market) (open between 4am and 7.30am) to buy fresh produce to prepare lunch or dinner in the facilities. Otherwise you might wish to wander up to the village where local warungs or seek out a little more luxury from the restaurants of Singaraja, Air Saneh or Lovina. Alternatively, you can let us know the day before and we will prepare traditional cuisine for you right here in the shared kitchen (95K IDR per person). Meals are prepared with fresh local produce by Balinese cookery teacher Ibu Kadek Ayu. Vegetarian options available. Please let us know a day in advance about your meal preference for the following day. Other things to note Sudaji village is 3 hours from Ngurah Rai Airport and Kuta area by car. It is a lovely drive over the mountain from Buleleng and the voyage will typical cost 750k/850k IDR. We strongly recommend arriving in daylight. Regrettably, Sunsetsala and the Sekempul Falls Teak House are not currently wheelchair accessible and guests whose mobility is limited should be wary that the bungalow is located down a path through ricefields, some 200m from where your car stops (those with motorbikes will be able to proceed further). We rent motorbikes for 75K IDR per day. They include a small trunk in the back for your belongings.
