Simple is beautiful. Lake water lapping at the shore and a cozy bungalow for shelter. Natural beauty with comfortable solitude. Swim. Enjoy tours of close-by wineries. This spot is just 26 minutes north of Ithaca and Cornell University and 10 minutes south of Aurora and Wells College. The changing seasons make this a year round treat. The space This beautiful building is the first of it’s kind. Minka is a Japanese term that means "home for regular people". The 348 sq. ft. space is ideal for 2 people, but a large day bed that pulls out into a queen size bed can accommodate 2 extra people. There is well equipped kitchen with everything you need to prepare your own meals. Equally important is the lovely patio which overlooks the lake and makes a great place for dining or enjoying your favorite beverage. Guest access Our guest have access to the water via easy sloping stone steps. The beach is stone, so water shoes are recommended. We do have 2 kayaks and we encourage folks to bring additional water toys as needed. There is not a dock on the Minka property, but fishing from the shore is possible. Within a lovely 5 minute walk up the stream you will find a lovely waterfall with a small pool at the bottom where you can sit and admire the stunning surroundings. Other things to note The Minka is located right on the shore of Cayuga Lake. It is a lovely balance of solitude and community. Most people come for a quiet little “get away from the hustle and bustle”. There are not a lot of stores in the area, but you can find 2 small grocery stores that will supply you with all the basics and more! The one in King Ferry, at the top of the hill, has some lovely locally made gifts (pottery, soups, aprons etc.). If you are looking to create a gourmet meal with all the fixings, you might want to stop in a larger grocery store along the way. There is a Greenstar Organic Grocery, Wegmans and Tops in Ithaca 25 minute away. Also a small grocery story in Union Springs, north of Aurora. Ithaca has a fabulous Farmers Market on Sat. & Sunday’s (May-Oct.) and even the little hamlet of Aurora has a Farmers Market on weekends (late spring-early Fall) It is important to note that GPS does not work well down by the lake. I will send you directional info. for the last mile on the day you arrive. Although our place is awesome for walks, there isn’t much in the way of walkable events. There is, however, a golf course just a mile up the hill and a new winery, Bright Leaf, less than a mile up the same hill. They have lovely outdoor seating with breathless views to look at as you sip wine and share a cheese platter. Two other wineries can be found within a 5 mi. radius. PLEASE, please abide by the 5 mph speed limit on the lake road. There are children and animals in our neighborhood.
