Located in the Hudson Valley and near the Berkshires this lovely hillside house built in the 1850's sits on 11 acres of hidden gardens, an apple orchard and woodlands. A tranquil place to escape to and enjoy nature. Spend time exploring and enjoying the many gardens on the property from the apple orchard, Zen Garden, flower beds, promenade of giant pine trees, the great hillside lawn and the 5 acres of woodland. Relax in the spacious 3500sq ft home made for entertaining large groups of friends and family or a tranquil private getaway. There is a beautiful fireplace for cold evenings and comfy couches to snuggle on or read a good book, which you will find many of in the grand old library. The 9 foot long dining table seats 12 and the well stocked kitchen is made for feasting and dining. The home feels light and airy with large windows open to the beautiful views of the land in every room. Four large bedrooms, means there's plenty of room for everyone and we've made sure that each bed will give you best sleep you've ever had! And we are happy to convert the library into the fifth bedroom for larger groups. There are hammocks to contemplate on, swings on the apple trees for the kids or to feel free like a kid and many board games and outdoor games to keep everyone busy....we are parents so we know how important this is! The best part about this space....we think is watching the dazzling Hudson Valley sunsets on the hilltop of this great lawn. With the mountains as a backdrop and the tall trees surrounding the property, it is truly inspiring each time we see it. To top it off, this is also the area we have set up for a fire pit and outdoor dining, so you can watch the sun set whiles having a drink in one hand and s'mores in the other...cheers! Guest will have full access to all areas of the property for exclusive use. We are available by phone and email and happy to answer any questions you may have before, during and after your stay. We also have a friendly local caretaker if local support is needed. At the house you will also find a very extensive house binder that has everything from restaurant recommendations to local doctors. There are taxi services from Hudson NY. We sometimes catch the train from NY Penn station to Hudson and then rent a car from Hudson. Lake Queechy is only a few minute drive from the house, guest will have access to the resident only private lake which is great for fishing, swimming and boating. There is a 'beach area' with diving platform and lifeguards on hand for a fun day out. Canaan and the surrounding Hudson Valley areas are known for its historic railroad and you will hear the trains running on occasion with its nostalgic whistles. We love the whistles and so do our visitors but for those that are light sleepers we have complimentary ear plugs in each of the bedroom, just incase.
