Gajah Pelangi Thouse - A Taste of Old Bali!

As I walked home tonight and entered my gate, I took a minute to be grateful when I saw the blessings on my gate from our villagers. I looked up at the stone barong carving that guards the gate and a gecko was lounging under the light absorbing some heat in the dark and I knew I needed to change my listing. Please read on so I can share the beauty of our house with you. The space Ours is a 2 bedroom post and beam ironwood house built especially for the tropical environment. Tony Gwilliam designed our complex to be in harmony with both the tropical environment and the local village. This sense of balance makes you feel a part of local life and we truly are. Though we are close enough to access Ubud easily by car, bike or walking (sometimes the fastest with traffic) we are in the village. Our house offers a taste of what Bali was before the crowds. We are on a tiny village street and as you walk out of the complex you are greeted with everyday Bali life. There are local stands that sell cold drinks but also workers heading out to the rice fields with tools in hand. There are women in ceremonial dress on their way to temple with offerings on their head and local men gathering to chat and compare their handsome roosters. There are children riding bikes and hanging out always wanting to say hello to practise their English. There are Bali dogs from the local compounds sleeping peacefully in the middle of the street. We are in the heart of the village and beside the rice fields. At noon you will hear the prayer from the temple over the fields. At night you will hear roosters, crickets, frogs, cows and sometimes dogs. Nature is a part of our life here; the tropics are lush and full of life and our architect planned our houses to live in harmony with it. The walls have sliding windows to join the indoor and outdoor spaces. This doesn't mean we don't have the comforts of home. We of course have a flush toilet and shower and sink with both hot and cold water. There are fans to cool the house, house specific wifi, a tv with dvd player (no cable) and plenty of spots to lounge both inside and outside. The kitchen has a full size fridge, two burner propane stove, and toaster oven for quick warm ups. All the basic equipment is there including a blender and rice cooker and we are happy to add things you need. The staff come to provide daily cleaning and are around all day to help. You can also arrange to have them cook you a simple breakfast or drop off groceries for a small fee to them. At night there is a watchman in case of emergency. All of our staff live in the village and are happy to take you to a ceremony if there is one happening. They also offer bike rentals and massage and can arrange any kind of tour or service you would like. All you need to do is ask. Guest access We are part of the Thouse Klod complex of 12 houses. The houses share a parking area, gardens and a pool. You will have our 2 bedroom house completely to yourself. Our house also has its own private garden with loungers. Our shallow cool water plunge pool is a great place to sit if the pool is crowded or to let your children splash about safely. We also have a pond and water feature in the front garden. Other things to note Bali is beautiful but sometimes you can miss that calm peacefulness in all of the crowds and traffic during the day. There is a time and a place to visit those tourist spots but at the end of the day, it is beautiful to come home to a quieter more authentic taste of Bali and village life.
