Description
The Regency is a Grade II listed mansion designed by W.C. Oliver and built by Shapland and Patter of Barnstaple in the 1880’s. It was originally meant to be for individual occupation by wealthy families however from 1907 to 1972 it was the Convent School of the Nuns of the Order of the Immaculate Conception who had come over from Brittany in 1903. In recent times The Regency was a residential care home and in 2019 it was fully renovated and now provides modern accommodation over four floors. The space The property is located on Torrs Park and therefore just moments from ‘The Torrs’ with its zig-zagging coastal paths, spectacular cliff views, abundant coastal plants and open spaces. From here you can take a picnic or walk to Lee or further to Mortehoe & Woolacombe, taking in a pub lunch on the way. Keep your eyes peeled whilst looking out to sea for dolphins, porpoises and seals. If you prefer to stay closer to home Ilfracombe has a bustling high street and working harbour. Along the Quay and in surrounding streets there are restaurants, cafes, tea gardens, art galleries and pubs. From here you can take a ferry to Lundy Island, take in an exhilarating boat tour of the coastline or try some fresh seafood which lands daily. The Regency also has a sun terrace, extensive landscaped gardens and a brook to sit and relax at the end of the day. The building is formed of five self contained apartments with living rooms with the added benefit of a large communal floor comprising of a residents lounge, dining room with bar, kitchen and wc. This gives guests the privacy and peace of a private apartment whilst having the communal space to socialise! All kitchens are fully equipped with fridge/freezer, microwave, over and hob, dishwasher and washing machine. The communal kitchen has a range cooker, large fridge and separate freezer. Each living room has a TV with freeview box and the property has free fibre wifi. For quiet days in we have a selection of books and games available in the residents lounge area to borrow. There are eight bedrooms and five living areas with sofa beds. Most bedrooms have been listed as having Queen beds however some of these are zip and link and can therefore be converted to singles. There is an additional two bedroom apartment on the garden level which has a separate entrance and available to rent if more space is required! Please contact us for booking enquiries as the diary may appear to be available when we actually have individual suite bookings and therefore not available. Thanks
