Description

High quality, fully self-contained, contemporary accommodation in a beautiful and peaceful garden setting, surrounded by bushland, birds and local fauna. Set in the heart of the Tinderbox Environmental Living Zone, stocked with homemade bread and produce, the chalets are a delightful place to relax and unwind. They also provide a great base to explore Hobart, the Huon Valley and Bruny Island, just over 20 minutes drive from each. Cafes, restaurants and shops are a short drive away. The space Two identical but private chalets are named ‘Birdsong’ and ‘Frogsong’ respectively for reasons that become readily apparent at different times of the year due to the delightful chorus of birds and frogs. The chalets are separately listed for bookings as Birdsong and Frogsong. Light and airy without feeling empty, warm and cosy without being cramped, stylishly smart but with a delightfully relaxed holiday feel, the two beautifully built and appointed private chalets feature Tasmanian specialty timbers throughout, providing a natural, warm and uniquely Tasmanian ambience. Situated to catch all-day sun, both chalets are fully insulated from slab to ceiling; with double-glazed windows they remain warm even in the coldest weather. A stylish Milano wood heater in each provides additional warmth and wonderful live-flame ambience for colder evenings. In summer, the large windows can be opened up to let the cooling breezes through, with an overhead fan providing gentle air movement. The chalets’ spacious and light-filled bathrooms are fitted out with a semi free-standing deep bath, a separate glass-screened shower and a front-loading washing machine for convenient clothes washing (and a clothes horse for drying) while on your travels. Soak up sun filled afternoons by relaxing on the deck or enjoy the ambience of the fire pits each chalet has during the evenings. We also have an outside wood-fire-heated cast-iron bath which is very popular. It is normally reserved for guests who book for 2 or more nights, and for returning guests, as a special added experience, and it should be booked in advance due to it’s popularity. Guests staying for only one night can enquire about its availability, and a surcharge will apply. Please note that for your privacy the bath is only available for use after dark and we only have one booking per night. Access The chalets are accessed from the car parking spots halfway up the driveway on the left, via a short walk along a garden path, which is free of steps and is illuminated at night. A soft-tyred cart is provided for easy transportation of your luggage/bags from your vehicle to your chalet and umbrellas are provided in case of rain. There is a farm style driveway gate which we close between dusk and morning to keep the wallabies at bay; if the gate is closed please just let yourself through and close behind you. Provisions and staying fresh Provisions for full-cooked breakfasts are provided as part of your stay, including our own home-made bread, butter, yoghurt, free-range eggs (if the chickens are performing their duties), jams and home-grown seasonal produce, as well as fresh orange juice, cereals and milk, coffee for percolating and tea for brewing. For all other meals, the chalet’s well-equipped kitchen provides facilities for fully self-contained catering. A generously proportioned L-shaped wooden deck and pergola wrap around two sides of each chalet to allow for bar-be-que cooking, outside dining throughout the day and late afternoon/early evening relaxation. The garden The 5 acre garden has been planted out with hundreds of native and exotic trees, an olive grove, bushes, shrubs and flowering plants. The garden also includes an enclosed fruit tree and vegetable patch, as well as a large protected area for flower growing, creating an informal garden parkland set amongst the eucalyptus wooded grasslands of the Tinderbox Peninsula. A good sized ornamental dam filled with a variety of water irises and lilies, a traditional white gravel petanque / boules / bocce court, the outside cast-iron bath, free ranging chickens, a peacock and an artist’s studio are other features of the garden, in which guests are invited to relax and explore. Guest access The chalets are accessed from the car parking spots halfway up the driveway on the left, via a short walk along a garden path, which is free of steps and is illuminated at night.
