The Cinnamon Cottage (Free Kayaking on Lake)

The Cinnamon Cottage is a beautifully located private cottage looking out on to the Bentota River. Situated at the bottom of a large garden full of fruit and spice trees, the cottage has a tropical modernist design, built using recycled timber and boasting an outdoor shower. Breakfast of fresh fruit, toast and tea is included in the room rate, and provided with a smile by the host's family, who are always on hand to help with whatever you need. Birds and lizards abound in the adjoining garden. The space The Cinnamon Cottage, named for the cinnamon tree that stands by the cottage door, has been designed using the concepts of tropical modernist architecture. The space includes one large bedroom with double bed, coffee table and chairs, a modern open air bathroom, and a private outdoor veranda with views of the water and tropical garden. The bedroom windows look out over mangrove trees and on to the Bentota River, providing travellers with a sense of calm and tranquility. Mango, jackfruit, coconut, guava, pineapple, lemon, breadfruit, ginger, cashew, saffron, and Sri Lankan almond trees can all be found in the garden, as well as a variety of birds and animals. Chameleons, water monitors, squirrels and mongoose can often be seen, and the Bentota River is a haven for birds such as sea eagles, kingfishers, storks, cormorants and parrots. If guests would prefer to eat in at night, a homemade Sri Lankan meal of rice and a selection of curries can be arranged at the cost of 1500 rupees per person, delivered to your room. Vegetarian guests will be catered for. Please make arrangements with the host at the time of your stay. Other things to note Your host, Sanjaya, lives with his mother, wife, 4 montha old son and teenage sister in the main house. They have two large and friendly dogs, a German Shepherd named Doughnut and a Rhodesian Ridgeback named Heide.
