SEASIDE TOURIST OFFER: it is an important seaside resort with a sandy beach (the coastline is Blue Flag 2018 with numerous bathing establishments and various accommodation facilities; there is a cycle path and a well-equipped marina that offers boaters the pleasure of a safe harbor for high-level boating (Blue Flag Landing since 1987). The promenade is embellished with centuries-old palm trees, with paving and lighting that are evocatively framed by the Art Nouveau buildings, built in the early twentieth century.  Walking through the city you will find several, almost in every street, such as the precious Villa delle Rose. Built in 1921, it has fine majolica decorations on the outside, while the inside is Art Nouveau, enriching every corner. Since 2015, children can enjoy Bambinopoli Square, a large playground right on the waterfront where they can also roam by bicycle or skates, with new recreational facilities to have fun.     WHAT TO VISIT: It is characterized by an upstream part with the Castello district, surrounded by recently restored walls, with three crenellated towers and an illuminated walkway and the Rocca Tiepolo, which takes its name from the Governor of Fermo Lorenzo Tiepolo, who had it built in 1276 to defend himself from Saracen pirates. The interior, recently restored and preserved in decent condition, houses an open-air theater where concerts and other cultural events take place. Worth seeing are: the historic "Vittorio Emanuele" theater from the early twentieth century, the nineteenth-century Church of San Giorgio, which houses a copy of the Polyptych of Porto San Giorgio by Carlo Crivelli; the Baroque Church of the Suffrage; the Church of the Blessed Rosary; Villa Bonaparte, built at the request of Napoleon's brother, Girolamo Bonaparte, who stayed in Porto San Giorgio between 1829 and 1832. The villa, surrounded by a large park, has decorations on the façade with bas-reliefs and high-reliefs of trophies of arms; the rooms, finely frescoed, are furnished with numerous Empire-style furniture of the time. The floor is made of grit and has mosaic decorations. Another building of considerable interest is Villa degli Oleandri (Riva Fiorita); owned by the municipality, surrounded by a large garden, it now houses the Sea Museum. Typical dishes are garagoli (sea snails in a broth of red sauce and spices) and brodetto. Traditional agri-food products include vin cotto. In August, the Festa del Mare takes place with a giant Adriatic pan (with a diameter of 4 m on the bottom and 6 m on the edge, with a capacity of 1000 liters of oil); during the festival, tons of squid and sardines are fried. In September, the International Chess Festival takes place, attended by professional players from all over the world.
