The space ACCOMMODATION The Lotus House apartment features one main bedroom with a comfortable queen size double bed, air-conditioning, fan, a wardrobe, dressing table and desk. The living room contains two extra-wide bunk beds (and a spare bed when required). It features Wi-Fi, TV, sofa, fan and dining table. The kitchenet has a full-size refrigerator, two burner stove, micro-wave oven, rice cooker, toaster, food preparation bench, sink, pots and pans, and crockery and cutlery etc. We also provide free tea and coffee and fresh fruit on arrival. The well appointed private bathroom has a gas hot water shower, western toilet with handrail, hand basin, towel racks and laundry facilities. The outside patio is set in beautiful tropical gardens complete with fish pond and waterfalls. There are table and chairs for outside dining along with comfortable bamboo deck-chairs which allow for uninterrupted views of the rice fields, grazing cattle and distant mountains. Guest access Private access to the entire lower level of the two level building. Guests are welcome to dine with the hosts upstairs for occasional dinners of Thai or Western cuisine. Other things to note Located in the tranquil village of Wiang Nuea, just 2.5 km (an 8 minute scooter ride) from the center of Pai township this historic village is home to about three hundred families, consisting of descendants of the Northern Thai Lana people and members of the ethnic Shan community whose ancestors originated in Burma and began settling in the Pai River valley 800 years ago. The valley lies at 650 meters above sea level and the mountains that completely surround it rise to over 1400 meters. It's high rainfall, cool climate and fertile soils provide ideal conditions for agriculture, producing rice and raising cattle and producing garlic, corn, tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage, strawberries and a host of other fruits and vegetables. Each day the farmers can be seen in the fields around the village working from dawn till dusk, using traditional farming methods and often buffalo to plow the fields and harvest their crops. It is in this setting, and after many years of enjoying the Pai lifestyle and witnessing the constantly changing scenery, that my Dutch-born Australian partner and I decided to build a fully self-contained holiday apartment in a stunning location which directly overlooks the cattle farm and rice fields and the daily activities of the farm workers. Beyond the farms lie spectacular mountain ranges often presenting us with the most unimaginable sunsets. We hope to share these unique experiences with our guests! GETTING TO PAI The road trip from Chiang Mai to Pai usually takes about three and a half hours depending on the weather and road conditions. The road has 762 curves and is quite steep in places and often has landslides so it can be quite hazardus, especially for novice scooter riders. If travelling by mini bus we can pick you up at the main Prempracha Bus Station in Pai or the nearby AYA Service company. Transfers to and from Chiang Mai in a comfortable seven seater 4 wheel drive station wagon are also available at a moderate cost.
