Other things to note About Zanzibar & Staying in Nungwi Zanzibar is an amazing island, full of vibrant culture, stunning beaches, and incredible natural beauty. Part of what makes it so special is its authenticity. Nungwi, at the northern tip of the island, is a charming rural village where life moves at its own pace. Some travelers are experienced at adapting to new environments, while others may expect things to function just like home. We encourage all guests to read up about Zanzibar before traveling and to arrive with an open mind and heart, ready to embrace island life. While the island is stunning, there are infrastructure challenges, especially in Nungwi: Water: There is no organised water supply in Nungwi, so we rely on a borehole for water. This means that showers may have a slight sprinkle of salt - which is normal throughout Nungwi. Electricity: Frequent power interruptions occur due to government supply. We provide solar lights and support during outages. Electrical wiring is sometimes inconsistent, which can cause lights to flicker or AC units to temporarily switch on and off. This is part of Zanzibar life, and we love hosting guests who understand and appreciate this. Roads: Many roads, including the one leading to the villa, are bumpy and not well-lit. Part of Nungwi’s charm is the slower pace of life and rural surroundings. Our staff can show you the quickest and safest routes, including a 7-minute shortcut to the beach through the local market near CocoBello. Wildlife: Zanzibar is a tropical island, so geckos and other small creatures are part of the ecosystem. Even in a perfectly clean home, you may encounter them — they are harmless and a reminder of the island’s natural beauty. Local culture: People in Zanzibar are incredibly friendly and appreciate when visitors learn a few words in Swahili. Please respect local customs, including dressing modestly while walking through the village (the beach is an exception). Our Services & Experiences Mwambani Villa is family-run, and some staff are not fluent in English, but at least one English-speaking team member is available 24/7. We offer traditional Zanzibar experiences, from sunset cruises and diving trips to Stone Town tours and Jozani Forest excursions. Staying with us means embracing the full Zanzibar experience: beautiful surroundings, friendly locals, tropical life, and the occasional practical challenge such as power fluctuations or salty water. We provide support and guidance to make your stay as smooth and enjoyable as possible — including solar lights, candles, and advice for getting around. If you are excited to explore, relax, and immerse yourself in authentic island life, Mwambani Villa is the perfect base. Come as guests, leave with memories of a true Zanzibar experience.
