Description

A large & characterful detached former farmhouse, part of which dates back to the 1700's. In the glorious Somerset countryside near Staple Fitzpaine in the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with views extending to the Quantock Hills yet only 10 minutes’ drive from the county town of Taunton. This spacious 5 bedroom (3 with en-suite facilities) cosy house has something for everyone, making it great for celebrations, families or friends looking to escape to the countryside. The space Staple Hill House is a former farmhouse set in its own large fully enclosed/fenced garden with a private gated entrance which leads into a courtyard. Downstairs you will find the large kitchen which comes fully equipped with all you could need to cook everything from a simple meal or a huge dinner for all your party. Off the kitchen is the large dining room which has an Inglenook fireplace, large table which seats 12 plus a snug corner with sofa and TV and enjoys views over the garden. The spacious sitting room also has views over the garden & as far as the Quantock Hills along with plenty of seating for everyone. There are five bedrooms in total, three with en-suite facilities, with one bedroom being on the ground floor making it ideal for up to 2 guests with limited mobility who prefer not to have to go upstairs to bed. Bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. Welcome/starter pack includes tea, coffee, milk & initial toilet rolls. Directly outside there is a wonderful large private hot tub which is set in it's own courtyard with a seating area where you can relax in this sun trap by day or under the stars and twinkly lights in the evening. Important - as not all guests require this facility it is not included in the nightly price. The additional cost depends on the length of stay & covers refilling, running costs, daily checks & cleaning, chemicals etc. Payment to be made at the time of booking or no later than 7 days prior to arrival. A large private fully enclosed lawned garden wraps around the house with garden furniture and barbecue giving you plenty of space for the children to run around or to just sit back, relax and enjoy the fresh Somerset air! There are 2 parking spaces immediately outside the house and a further parking area for 3 more cars also on the property. The immediate area is a walker’s or cyclist’s paradise with routes in every direction and offers easy access to the Staple Fitzpaine Herepath, a shared cycle and walking bridleway with a network of marked trails through forestry and open land of varying lengths to suit everyone and forms in total a 13 mile loop around the village of Staple Fitzpaine. The route primarily follows a series of off road tracks through wooded areas including Staple Park Wood, Piddle Wood and Bickenhall Wood. Castle Neroche and Staple Hill parks being of particular note where great walks and views can be enjoyed. Just ¾ of a mile away is the Greyhound Inn or a short drive takes you to my favourite local pub, the friendly, olde worlde & traditional Holman Clavel, which offers a good selection of home cooked local food and drink, it's dog friendly and is surrounded by amazing walks. The county town of Taunton is around 10 minutes’ drive away and has a host of shops, restaurants, and entertainment facilities. National Trust properties surround the area and the Great Somerset Steam Railway from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead is a must do for kids and adults. The seaside town of Lyme Regis on The Jurassic coast just over the Dorset border is a little over half an hour’s drive away.
