Travellers are welcome to stay at the family's home in Mawsynram which is 54 kms away from Shillong, Meghalaya. Sankrita ,(San), will be your host. Built in 1970, the place is located in the heart of the village and close to natural spaces and activities. A short walk through the winding paths in the village will lead to the market,local eateries and public transport. You’ll love the place for what it is. The place is good for foodies, couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids). The space The place has a big room with an attached private bathroom, traditional kitchen and a view of the rolling hills of Mawsynram. A short walk through the winding roads in the village will lead you to the village "station" which has most of the basic things like eateries, tea stalls, medical store and transport both public and private , Mawsynram village is a traditional community and is a good base for adventure seekers and those seeking a village experience. Sankrita, my cousin and her mother look after the property. they will be your host.They cook well and can whip up a traditional cuisine.Let them know well before hand so they can cook for you.They also know the village well and can take you on guided tours . They will help you with your travels plans and arrangement of transport within Mawsynram..But always let them know before hand.However a seperate payment is made for the lunch and dinner that you order.ask San for the menu and the price.The tour guides usually charge Rs 300 per day and taxis to take you places have their own rates.Discuss with San and feel comfortable to ask her any questions. This is life in a village :D Guest access The room is upstairs and has a common entrance .The kitchen is downstairs and there is a cooking space in the backyard where all dishes are being cooked. The double bed is big and the room is bright with a balcony . You are free to use the kitchen any time. During your stay Sankrita is available to help you with any thing you may require .She will arrange your lunch and dinner for a price as listed on her menu of traditional dishes or ordinary dishes.She will help arrange transport and a local guide and they will be paid for seperately.Please ask sankrita for the menu which is seasonal depending on the availability of the ingredients Other things to note Enjoy your stay .
