Quaint village house in Verteuil

Beautiful, renovated 18th century stone terrace house in an idyllic, medieval village nestled along the Charente River in south west France. Centrally placed in a small French village dominated by the silhouette of its magnificent château and the magical, tranquil Charente river. The space The house is a stone terrace house, the terrace row constructed in 1775. It has recently been renovated by the previous owner, a retired artisan, who used it as a holiday house. The terrace row sits neatly below Verteuil's 12th century church, Église St Médard. The house is a one bedroom, three level terrace house. It is perfect for couples, and is an excellent romantic hideaway for two. There is also a convertible sofa/bed in one of the living areas. Like many French village houses, you enter the house straight from the street, into a spacious living area graced by two beautiful Charentaise fireplaces. Exposed beams and pointed stone walls add to the charm of the property. There is a convertible sofa/bed on this level. At the back of this floor is the cellar, set into the cliff behind the house, and contains the washing machine and the central heating plant. Stairs lead up to the first floor where there is a large open area divided into a sitting area and dining area. Look out the window and see Verteuil's magnificent château, just at the end of the street. This level also has a well appointed kitchen with doors to the outside terrace and courtyard area. The outside courtyard and garden leads to our very own "stairway to heaven", up a series of steps to provide access to St Médard's, the village's 12th century church, and beautiful views across the roof tops of the village. Back inside, the stairs lead up again to the separate bathroom and toilet, and to a very large and comfortable bedroom. The property is located about 30 metres from the Charente river, and the river park and picnic area, and offers views over the river from the upstairs windows. All the village facilities are within 2 to 3 minutes walk from the house. Lovely riverside restaurants, the boulangerie and all other village shops are just a hop, step and jump down the street. There is fast and free wifi access in the house. Verteuil is a perfect base for exploring the "real" France, la France profonde! Guest access Guests have access to the entire house. Other things to note Our house was built in the 18th century, long before we dreamed of cars and garages. There isn't a garage at the house in Verteuil (and unfortunately, no barn to convert into a garage). However, there is plentiful free public parking for your vehicle within 40 metres of either direction of the house. We have never experienced difficulty securing a car park in these public car parking areas, even in the busiest month of August.
