Description
Tiplady is a small farm with great views and a place where everything is just a little quirky. The Herdie Hut is a traditional shepherd's hut set by a stream in a small wooded valley. The hut is cosy with a wood burning stove and has a small sitting out area . The toilets and showers are adjacent to the hut and there is a handy fridge, in a telephone box, just outside. Located close to the Nidderdale Way, Tiplady Farm is perfect for walkers and cyclists or simply somewhere to escape to. The space Most of our guests agree that Tiplady is different, most important of course is a warm welcome and friendly owners willing to help out with local knowledge of places to visit and where to eat. On top of that we love unusual stuff such as our sheep's head carved from an old tree stump, vintage signs and and old Shell petrol pump to light your way. Usually there are a few old cars, lorries or motorbikes around the place and if you like rare breeds, we have Highland cattle and Herdwick sheep (both Viking breeds). You are also welcome to meet with our working horses if time permits. To help you enjoy your break, you have a choice of places to prepare food on site, there's a barbecue area by the Victorian waterwheel, a hilltop shelter with stunning views and a fire pit or there are plenty of amazing places to eat locally. We provide basic firewood for the hut and for a small charge a BBQ, camping gas stove or a fuel efficient rocket stove to cook on. In winter months it is advisable to bring wellies and a torch. Being remote, Tiplady is a pretty safe place but if you'd like, we can lock your bikes, canoes or pretty much anything else up in one of our barns. Guest access Guests have access to a modern shower block with underfloor heating and both barbecue areas. There's a small footpath up the valley and across into our woods which is ideal for an early morning walk. If you are lucky you might see some deer and in spring or autumn you can pretty much expect the owls to serenade you off to sleep During your stay The hut is situated on the farm and the hosts Janet and Kim are around should you need anything. Other things to note You have access to an indoor dining and cooking area inside an old railway carriage. Inside is a gas camping stove, table and chairs and all cooking utensils.
