Villa 238 - The Beach House-Dutch Bay Trincomalee

This lovingly restored villa is situated right on the beach in beautiful Dutch Bay. It offers a rare opportunity to be embedded in authentic Sri Lankan culture while simultaneously secluded in comfort with modern luxuries and conveniences. The space The villa is located on a quaint residential street that backs right onto the crystal clear turquoise waters of Dutch Bay. Along with our neighbouring properties Villa 232 and Villa 234, it is closer to the ocean than any other villa we know of in Sri Lanka - the back garden gate opens directly onto the beautiful beach. The villa is a fairly unique concept for Sri Lankan villa tourism. As you walk down the quaint residential street, or down the beach past the fisherman casting their nets in the same manner they have for centuries, you would have no idea that tucked behind the unassuming facade is a spacious and comfortable holiday villa with amazing sea views and almost every modern convenience. There is a plunge pool in the garden and sun loungers with umbrellas on the private beach patio outside the house. the house and garden has multiple dining zones, indoor and outdoor. The villa has super fast fiber-optic wifi internet. All the bedrooms have ACs, and there is a dedicated entertainment room with a projector (200+" screen), HD satellite TV and a home-networked library of 1000s of movies and TV shows. There is also a Playstation video game system with a large collection of games for kids and adults to enjoy. Bring your password for your favourite streaming service (Netflix, Amazon etc) and you can log in directly on the living room projector and on the cabana room TV. Quality bluetooth music speakers are also provided. The master bedroom has a king size bed, with his and her basins in the master bathroom. There are two rain showers indoors and one outdoor shower with views over the bay. The spare bedroom has two single beds, and there is a separate upstairs beach cabana bedroom (queen size bed), with dramatic views right over the Indian Ocean. The cabana bedroom also has a 40" TV with cable as well as access to the same home library of 100s movies and TV shows. The kitchen looks out over the garden and the ocean beyond - it is well stocked with a decent selection of necessary cooking tools, utensils, bartending kit etc. Also, feel free to cook with any of the dry goods you find in the pantry cupboard. Ample hanging and drawer space for guests’ clothes is provided. Guest access Guest will have their own keys and the whole place to themselves. The villa has super fast fiber-optic wifi internet so it's a great location for those who want to work away from home. In the villa you will find complimentary mineral water, quality tea and Italian coffee (with mocha pot and French press). Toiletries are provided. There is a fully equipped kitchen and a BBQ is provided for outdoor grilling of fresh seafood from the nearby market. You can even sometimes buy fish directly from the fishermen on the beach. Trinco's best supermarket, Food City is a few minutes tuk-tuk ride away. We leave contact details in the villa for you for a reliable and kind tuk-tuk driver. The villa is really well located for various great restaurants which will deliver delicious meals right to your door. We provide menus and contact info for these for you at the villa. Other things to note Our villas are set-up for the independent traveler to truly enjoy a feeling of being in your own home here on Dutch Bay. We provide the following services to make your stay comfortable. HOUSEKEEPING • Daily Housekeeping is provided. Please note our staff are not available for full-time maid service. • Guests are welcome to decline the housekeeping if they want a fully private experience. In that case, please discuss a good time for daily rubbish removal and kitchen tidying with our lovely housekeeper Kasthuri. • Towels are changed every other day / upon request. For longer stays bed linens are typically changed on request after three days. • If you would like 9am-5pm maid service at the villa it might be possible to arrange a maid (separate to our daily staff) to work for you for the day. (c. Rs 8000 per day). Please discuss with Kian or Janah. BREAKFAST We offer a basic complimentary breakfast to help get your day going. Breakfast is a fixed menu. You can choose Sri Lankan or Western breakfast each day (as a choice for the whole house please). Western: 2 eggs per person prepared any way, loaf of bread, fruit juice. Sri Lankan: 2 eggs per person prepared any way, paratha / string hoppers, dhal curry, fruit juice Kasthuri will ask you the day before what time you’d like breakfast (anytime from 8am) and how you’d like your eggs. If you require breakfast before 8am any day, our staff will drop off eggs, bread and fruit the afternoon before so you can prepare and enjoy them at your convenience in the early morning. SRI LANKAN COOKING EXPERIENCE AT YOUR VILLA Upon request, we can sometimes arrange a Sri Lankan cooking demonstration in your kitchen. You buy the core ingredients only (meat / seafood vegetables etc) and the cook(s) can cook the curries. (Rs. 8000) LAUNDRY Laundry service can sometimes be provided by our staff for Rs. 4000 per load (about 10 normal sized items) IMPORTANT NOTE ON SEASONAL WEATHER: Most of the year Trincomalee is a very hot, dry and sunny destination. In case you didn't already know, please be aware that Sri Lanka's East Coast has a completely separate monsoon rain season to the South / West of the island. The worst of the East Coast monsoon falls in November and December. (It can't be predicted exactly but the rains usually really set in around mid November and the sunny days begin to return again by Christmas time). While there can be sunny days here and there during the monsoon season, in general during that period the sea and beach conditions will likely be very different than they are as seen in the pictures from high season. (Low season pricing is set accordingly). All this applies to the entire North East of Sri Lanka of course - we just want to make sure our guests know what to expect at that time of year.
