Description

Cosy, charming, quirky and packed full of character, Pontganol Cottage has been in my family for over 100 years. She's designed to make you feel like you’re in a cross between a boutique hotel and a cosy home-from-home, with everything you need (and more) for a relaxing, restful and restorative break. Sitting in the beautiful Llangynidr village (two pubs, a shop, deli, and a cafe) there are gorgeous walks all around, from the canal, to the river and mountains of the Brecon Beacons beyond. The space Originally built in 1834, Pontganol was once home to the village policeman and a former lock keeper. Now you can relax with a book and a glass of wine in the cosy living room, cook up a storm in the kitchen, have an alfresco dinner in the garden and go stargazing in an international dark sky reserve! As you open the front door, there's space to rest your tired wellies or boots in the front porch, before you walk through to the living room. It's a cosy room, with squishy sofas, throws and rugs, all in contemporary colours, but where you'll also feel a little nod to the cottage's history with the vintage maps and quarry-tiled floor. On chilly nights you'll love getting a fire going in the woodburner, and a basket of logs and kindling is supplied for each booking. There's a small snug off the living room, home to a double futon that's great for kids as it's got a separate TV with DVD and Wii. Then you'll find the gorgeous fully fitted wooden country-style kitchen and dining area at the back of the cottage. This space overlooks a small wooded area behind the cottage and is great for bird spotting. There's then a back porch/utility space with washing machine/tumble dryer, microwave etc. Upstairs there's a generous landing with a single daybed - the perfect spot for curling up with a book. The main master bedroom has a King size bed complete with high thread count Egyptian cotton bedding, throws and hypoallergenic duvet and pillows, DAB radio, pretty painted chest of drawers, Louis Ghost-style perspex chair and a hanging rail for clothes. The smaller double bedroom at the back of the cottage has a white wooden bed, sloping ceiling with skylight, wooden painted wardrobe and views towards the wood. You'll love the bathroom upstairs too, with its roll top bath (and views of the stars through the velux window above) and separate shower. Outside an enclosed cottage garden wraps all the way around the cottage,w with a lawned area for relaxing outside a pretty summerhouse. There's also a not-so-secret BBQ area with outdoor sofa and chairs and off-street parking for two cars. There are deckchairs, and two outside tables with chairs which you're welcome to move around the garden to catch the sun. Guest access You're welcome to open all cupboards and help yourselves to tealights, games, puzzles, DVDs, kids games, dressing up hats and all the books (local info, cookery, stargazing, animal spotting, novels) during your stay and the whole of the cottage, garden and outbuildings are yours during your stay. The bothy at the end of the garden is also home to lots of spiders, so whilst it makes a great lockable bike store, you'll need someone not afraid of spiders if you plan to use it! Other things to note In the wake of Covid-19, the little cottage is signed up to Airbnb's Committed to Clean scheme, the AA's Covid Confident initiative and Visit Wales' 'Good to Go' industry standard for self-catering properties. There's new hand sanitising points inside and more cleaning materials than ever provided for guests. Plus the professional cleaners do an amazing job of cleaning and disinfecting between guests to make your stay as safe as it can be.
