We as hosts along with hospitality, highly value the 'genius loci' of a space, which means a unique atmosphere and soul of each house in terms of its own culture, history and heritage. So this being our ancestral house much of it has been kept the way it is. Humble,warm, great views of our town and the nearby hills, cozy common spaces, is what you can expect here with a glimpse of the local life here. The space Warm wooden, carpeted interiors, rustic with ample amount of day light, Southwest facing windows ( recommend the sunset view and the town view at night ) and common spaces with panoramic view of the town and the neighbouring hills. Walkable distance to the iconic Happy Valley tea gardens, motorable road till the door step, friendly neighbours with enough privacy for a wonderful stay. Note : 1. The daily housekeeping is not included in the price. You need to pay extra upon request. 2. Home cooked food is also available upon request, a small menu is kept in the stay from which you can place your order. The kitchen is also run by a lady who lives next door and one thing about her cooking is it's tasty, hygiencally prepared, healthy and prepared with a lot of love. 3. Heaters are available on request for Rs 400 per night. 4. Pick up and drop service to town and back is also run by our locals upon request, and they charge Rs 300 one way during the day time and nightly charges will depend on the timings. Note : the standard charges for the cabs in town is Rs 500 but in an understanding with the cabs in the locality the prices are Rs 300, and you have to pay them directly. Access is via a steep hillside road; we recommend using our local driver support for smooth pick-ups and drops. 5. Rooms are cosy and compact, ideal for travellers who prioritise location and views, old home charm over room size. Guest access Guests have access to all the spaces listed in the pictures. We keep Mountainlore simple, cosy and great value. If anything during your stay feels off—even something small—please message us immediately. We’re always happy to fix things quickly so your experience stays comfortable. Other things to note Since the distance from the Town Centre is 1.2 kms away and generally it takes me about 15-20 mins walk till the mall road area and 15 mins while coming back from town, considering past feedback it takes the guests about 25 - 30 mins on foot till the mall road, and 20 mins while heading back. You will be getting the whole space to yourself. Which includes one functional kitchen, three bedrooms, three balconies, two toilets, two large living spaces which are connected to the balconies with a collection of books, a telescope, tea maker and other smaller perks. Mountainlore is a cosy urban homestay in the hills. Due to Darjeeling’s terrain and weather, occasional maintenance issues may arise, but our local team is always available to assist promptly.
