Outisde: Decked terrace with table and two chairs Fire pit - please bring your own firewood Greenslade’s Environmental Commitments: After a period of farming crops we have returned the field to a wild grass meadow. We want to further enhance the natural environment through planting native trees and shrubs which will provide a haven for local wildlife. The site is off grid with a green energy supplier providing electricity for The Sharing Shed. We offer onsite vegetable waste composting and a full recycling facility for other food waste, glass, paper, card, plastic and cans. Planting Trees: We have a five year plan for the land at Greenslade. Your visit will help us fund this work. Every booking will be marked with the planting of a new tree sapling or shrub. In time your contribution will grow to provide a woodland and fruit and nut orchard to enhance the existing grass meadow. Update: After our first year of camping in 2020 we have planted over 300 trees in the field and started an apple orchard too. We have also built a circular grass bank around one of the fire pits and seeded the top area of the field with wild flowers. The field is now a regular hunting spot for barn owls and we have installed an owl box in the far corner to provide shelter and a place to nest. Guest access Blackawton village is situated one mile off the A3122 road to Dartmouth. The one mile drive off the main road is along a mainly single carriage lane with passing places. The car is the most convenient way to explore the area. However, you can travel here by train and explore the local area using buses, boats, bikes or on foot. If you arrive on public transport and would like a collection please let us know and we will do our best to help. The nearest bus stop is about one mile from the village and the nearest train station is Totnes with a regular express train to London Paddington (under three hours). The local bus stop offers a daily bus service on the 92 bus route between Dartmouth and Totnes where connections can be made to the surrounding towns and coast. Parking is provided at the campsite and is free within the village. If travelling to Dartmouth it is advisable to use the Park and Ride service at the top of the town. There is ample parking at local beaches and neighbouring towns. Other things to note The campsite is situated in a wild grass meadow which is a rich habitat for flora and fauna. Our campsite is a quiet space with no amplified sounds.
