The space The first references date back to the times of the Greeks, when the city of Cetaria was built. The settlement then continued in Roman times, in Islamic times and during the Norman period. The current village dates back to the 17th century and is divided into two parts: a baglio (from the Arabic bahal: courtyard), and a tuna fishery. Ferdinand II of Bourbon, during the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (1816-1861), elevated the area of Scopello, with the nearby forest of the same name, to the rank of Royal Reserve for hunting, visiting it twice in 1830 and 1859, and it is here that "the battle of the Cutrara" took place between the Bourbon army and that of Garibaldi. With the unification of Italy, the Scopello hunting reserve was assigned to a state-owned company and the Bourbon assets were dismembered and resold. The Baglio was purchased in 2001 by Onofrio Pipitone who, due to the ancient destination of the area, wanted to call the structure "Baglio la Riserva".
