Rowan Retreat was formally a barn which has been tastefully converted into two cosy cottages keeping many of its original features including stonewalls and wooden beams, and is set in the quiet Cornish village of Lanreath. The cottage sleeps two people and is a fabulous base from which to explore Cornwall, and it benefits from upside down accommodation with the ground floor occupying a double bedroom with a flat screen TV with built-in DVD player, as well as a shower room. Head upstairs to the first floor which presents an open plan living room and kitchen, where the sitting area has a flat screen TV with built-in DVD player, so you can relax and unwind with beautiful views to the countryside. From Lanreath, just 5 miles away is the popular fishing port of Looe where there are many boat trips from shark fishing to leisure trips, or you can just amble around the quiet streets where there are many shops, bars, restaurants and cafés. Also nearby is the village of Polperro with its very narrow streets where you must park the car and walk, or catch the tram, through the narrow streets of shops, restaurants and cafés down to the harbour. Just a short distance from Lanreath is the village of Polruan, where you can wander the narrow streets to the harbour whilst admiring the breathtaking views of the Atlantic and across the harbour where you can see the small town of Fowey, which has been in existence since well before the Norman invasion. At the harbour you can catch the foot ferry across to Fowey where you can see the cottage of the famous author ’Daphne du Maurier’ from where she wrote some novels and short stories. There are plenty of other attractions nearby including the Eden Project, 16 miles, with its multiple biomes and housing the largest rain forest in captivity, Charlestown, 18 miles, with its Shipwreck and Heritage Museum and where some of the scenes from the TV show Poldark was filmed, and not forgetting the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Mevagissey. Just 34 miles away along the south coast you will find Padstow, known as one of Cornwall’s great foodie destinations and home to the restaurant of famous chef Rick Stein, as well as Port Isaac, just 26 miles and known for being the setting of the TV dramas Doc Martin and Poldark. If you don’t want to travel far, the local village has an array of amenities just a short stroll away including a community shop/post office, pub with weekend entertainment, and a 900 year old church, one of the oldest buildings in the village. On your return to the cottage, sit out in the attractive tiered garden and enjoy a glass of wine or well-earned cup of tea. Beach 5 miles. Shop 30 yards, pub 200 yards and restaurant 2½ miles.
