Constructed of Welsh stone, Swallow Barn Cottage sits in a rural location but with good car access and cycle path, 1 mile from the ferry terminal to Ireland, in private grounds surrounded by private pastures. Within walking distance to Fishguard and a short drive to beautiful beaches. The nearby 188 mile Pembrokeshire Coastal Path was chosen by Nat Geo Traveller as the second best coastline in the world – come and see for yourself! The space Welsh stone self contained semi detached cottage, which can be rented separately (school holidays excluded), or together with the large barn. The Cottage is approached from the A40 down a private gated driveway. It has its own front and rear entrance, private garden, terrace and mini conservatory. A huge picture window in the main living area frames the garden and hills beyond. The Cottage comprise of a large open plan living/dining/kitchen space, a SUPER king bedroom, bunk bedroom (2 singles) and a large family bathroom with a bath, separate shower and heated towel rail. The whole cottage has mediterranean style ceramic tiles and enjoys warmth from underfloor heating and an electric mock wood burning stove for ambience on chilly winter nights! The open plan kitchen is fully equipped and also has a dishwasher, microwave, fridge and washing machine. There is a mini conservatory accessed via the kitchen which is a wonderful all year round sun trap. For clement days, use the private terrace with outside tables and chairs and a BBQ. Fenced garden with lawn and secure 5 bar gates is ideal for medium to large dogs. Very small and Houdini type dogs prone to escape may need to be supervised! THE COTTAGE IS ONLY LET WHEN THE MAIN BARN IS UNLET TO OTHER GUEST so guests renting the Cottage have privacy and, when applicable full access to the entire grounds of the larger property including when possible the wooden entertaining deck and landscaped garden. My family had been living in the area for almost a decade before discovering Swallow Barn, a derelict but beautiful stone barn with outbuildings. Plans were created to preserve and restore every possible original feature to create a stylish and spacious home that maintains its original character, whilst offering comfort and all the features of modern living. Swallow Barn and Cottage have been a much loved family home for many years and now we would like to share that with others to keep a happy energy moving through the property throughout the year. The Cottage was given a fabulous facelift a few years ago, when we invested in new kitchen appliances, bunk beds, Ottoman sofa, linen, large new Smart TV, and up to date WIFI facilities (which we offer to our guests unlimited and free). We hope that we provide our guests with everything they need to feel relaxed and able to kick back and enjoy special time away from the stresses of every day life. Guest access All guests are free to wander and relax in the grounds of the ENTIRE property. Other things to note Pembrokeshire has rightly been chosen by National Geographic Traveller as the second best coastal destination in the world. With mile upon glorious mile of walks on beaches, along clifftops and through woodland, Pembrokeshire is a 'must see' destination, recently selected as film locations for 'Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows' and 'Snow White and the Huntsmen'. The area is steeped in history; the landscape peppered with prehistoric tombs, medieval castles and Celtic religious shrines. As a popular family holiday destination, Fishguard and neighbouring villages are teaming with friendly pubs serving local mackerel, lobster, mussels and dressed crab. Eat the freshest fish and chips on the beach or try out locally crafted beer with a platter of artisan cheeses. There are plenty of takeaways and cafes for a coffee and traditional sweet Welsh treats, an excellent gourmet deli, and some top notch restaurants for a special night out. To work up an appetite try some adventure sports with horse riding, mountain biking, paint balling, rock climbing, go karting, Zorbing, white water rafting and quad biking, even the ancient sport of falconry is on offer nearby! Regular boat trips to the numerous offshore islands and bird sanctuaries are available. This unspoilt and carefully preserved part of the country has some of the finest examples of unusual flora and fauna to thrill any nature enthusiast. Boat charter is available as is both sea and freshwater fishing. Water sports are a must, with Newport a Mecca for sailing, surfing and wind surfing whilst Whitesands and Newgale, on the way to St Davids, are world famous for excellent surfing. Resorts such as Tenby, St Davids and Cardigan are lovely for a day out and have lots of activities for children and the magnificent ruins of Pembroke Castle (the birthplace of the Tudors) is only 45 minutes away. If you are an artist, a photographer or a writer, the incredible natural beauty of this region is perfect for peace and quiet and creative inspiration. The best kind of holiday is one filled with plenty of rest and relaxation, so pack a picnic basket with local produce, a good book and a rug and find a spot where you can chill out for the day. On a practical level, Haverfordwest (10 minutes drive) offers a large shopping centre with Tesco, Marks and Spencer and other large superstores. However, Fishguard itself has excellent food shopping, with a Saturday Farmer’s Market that showcases the best local produce.
