Description
Stay at Casa del Tesoriere — an extraordinary 500-year-old palazzo inside the Silent City of Mdina, home to Malta's wealthiest families. Enjoy authentic character, beautiful architecture, and Mdina’s unique calm at this remarkable property. Perfect for family stays or a grand getaway, this historic gem offers elegant living, spacious rooms, a peaceful courtyard, and a repurposed pond. Widely popular with tourists and one of the most picturesque properties in Malta. The space Casa del Tesoriere is a rare, fully detached noble palazzo in the heart of Mdina — Malta’s ancient capital once home to the island’s wealthiest families. Mdina is a fortified medieval city of just 300 residents, one of Europe’s best-preserved walled towns, famous for its quiet charm and mix of medieval and baroque architecture. This historic palazzo sits alone in Bastion Square — a unique location offering unobstructed views and total privacy. Typical of Malta’s grand heritage homes, parts date back to the 14th century, with later additions from the 16th and 17th centuries. Lovingly renovated over the past three years, Tesoriere now comfortably hosts up to 10 guests in 5 elegant bedrooms, with space for up to 12 using folding beds. It’s ideal for large family groups, retreats, or special team stays. Inside, you’ll find an entrance hall leading to an Art Nouveau dining room and a fully equipped kitchen. The ground floor includes an ensuite double bedroom (air-conditioned), a conservatory-style dining area, and direct access to a large private garden centred around a shallow, repurposed pond — perfect for cooling off on warm days. A majestic staircase leads to more bedrooms: one twin room halfway up, plus two more double bedrooms on the first floor — both air-conditioned. One has an ensuite and balcony overlooking the garden; the other, styled in Art Nouveau, sits beside a family bathroom with shower and bath. Additional balconies offer sunny spots for morning coffee or lunch outdoors. The palazzo’s highlight is its grand Sala Nobile — an impressive drawing room with chandeliers, decorative fireplace, bookshelves, and a large table for dining or working, with a charming balcony over Bastion Square. The top floor holds a final double bedroom and a separate shower room. Please note: roof access is not permitted. Casa del Tesoriere is not just picturesque — it’s one of Mdina’s true hidden jewels, offering guests the chance to live inside Malta’s Silent City with authentic grandeur, comfort, and total privacy. We look forward to welcoming you. Guest access Guests have exclusive access to the entire palazzo, including the private courtyard and hybrid pond area. There are no shared spaces — it’s fully yours during your stay. Other things to note For people that book for a few nights we are happy to prepare a small welcome package with some traditional food and drinks from Malta including a local wine favoured by the locals. An eco-tax of €0.50 per adult (18+) per night (capped at €5 per stay) will be collected on arrival, as required by Maltese law. Due to the large size of the palazzo, Wi-Fi coverage is strongest in the living, dining and study areas but may not reach every corner of the property. The hybrid pond/pool is a shallow, repurposed decorative pond — not a heated swimming pool. The internal fireplace is for decorative use only and is not functional. Tesoriere is not a party property — Mdina is a quiet, historic town and we wish to respect its unique atmosphere. Free parking is available just outside Mdina’s city gates (2–3 minutes’ walk). A non-transferable parking permit for one vehicle can be arranged after the first 24 hours of your stay.
