Steep yourself in local history, listen to the birds & water and enjoy the village vibe. Free on-street parking. The space The Bank Manager's Residence is exactly that. Built between 1860-1880 it was the home of the Lester family who were local farmers and merchants then in 1912 it became the residence of the manager of the Bank of New Zealand and his family until the bank closed in the mid 1960's. The old Bank building is attached. The building has been carefully repaired over the past 10 years preserving the heritage fabric and the garden is now also being restored. You can drive around the Hokianga Harbour or catch a local launch and learn about the history of the area as you visit historic buildings, cemeteries and scenic beaches or just relax on the front verandah and watch the locals go by. Guest access The whole house is yours to use - there is a wee garden in the front, and a private courtyard at the back of the property, along with a large shared garden.
