A modern Japanese home in the city of Tanabe in a quiet neighborhood - convenient to the train station, shopping and sightseeing areas. There are four rooms to accommodate eight - ten guests, a bath and washroom, bathroom, kitchen, and dining room. The space A LICENSED modern Japanese home in the city of Tanabe in a quiet neighborhood - convenient to the train station, shopping and sightseeing areas. Cozy House has three room listings (central Tanabe Kumano, easy access to Kumano, and Heart of Tanabe/Kumano) in one house to accommodate eight - ten guests, a bath, washroom, 2 toilets, kitchen, and dining room. We are happy to help you with arrangements for sightseeing and hiking if you want to visit the World Heritage Kumano Kodo pilgrimage sites. Our designer home is in the heart of Tanabe. It makes a wonderful base to explore the world heritage Kumano Kodo pilgrimage routes. In Tanabe you are just minutes by foot to many wonderful restaurants and a great nightlife, and within easy reach by train or bus to the most popular beach resort in all of Japan, Shirahama. We also have a couple of bicycles you may borrow for exploring the area. The house is large and airy, clean and comfortable. Rooms are on the first and second story. You have use of the kitchen (but not the kitchen stove due to safety concerns). There is a microwave oven, electric frypan, and a toaster for cooking simple meals. There are refrigerators on the first and second floors. There is a washing machine. There is no dryer, but you can enjoy the sweet smell of sun-dried clothes fresh off the line from the veranda just as most Japanese do. Families are welcome. Beaches and parks are nice places to spend time (and no money) for keeping the kids entertained. Especially recommended are Shinjo Park with many kinds of fantastic play equipment and Tenjinzaki Cape, with tidal pools to explore. There are a variety of great restaurants at reasonable prices within ten minutes walk. On the third Sunday morning of every month, Benkei-ichi, an old-fashioned street market is held a few minutes walk away at Tokei Shrine. Tanabe is known as Kuchi-Kumano, the entrance (kuchi) to the sacred pilgrimage routes in Hongu (a part of Tanabe), and to the south on the Kii Peninsula - Shingu and Nachi. Tanabe is also the home town of the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba. Aikido practioners may like to visit Ueshiba's grave and other places of interest which are within walking distance. Ogigahama Beach is a 10-minute walk from the house. It has a beautiful beach and waterfront park. Tenjin-zaki (Cape Tenjin) is a National Trust area set aside to preserve the natural environment of tidal pools and land forms 20 minutes away by bicycle. The first story of the house is lived in by our family, and we are always coming and going. There is a persimmon orchard next to the house with cherry and citrus trees providing refreshing greenery in the middle of a city - a rarity in Japan. Kathy and I, Hideo, are both registered guides for the Kumano Kodo heritage pilgrimage routes. We are happy to help you with plans for walking in the area. We also can provide full service guiding with consultation. We are happy to give you some tips on nice places to walk in Tanabe and the surrounding area! Our house is suitable for single travelers or groups. We can accommodate people for both long and short stays. There are many festivals and cultural events in the Tanabe area at all times of the year. Check out our guide to things to do in the Tanabe area. Guests needing parking facilities should let us know ahead of time Guest access Guests have access to the kitchen, but not the gas kitchen stove. There are electrical appliances available to cook with. During your stay We meet all of our guests and enjoy learning about them and their travels. Other things to note Easy access to beaches in Tanabe and Shirahama, and pilgrimage routes of the Kumano Kodo. Children under three years stay with no fee as long as extra futons are not needed.
