Description

Upper Lansdowne is ~2hrs from Newcastle & ~25 mins off the freeway, but feels a million miles away with beautiful scenery & seclusion. Enjoy tranquil, epic views of mountains & farmland from a cute cabin overlooking a dam. Wake to the sound of birdsong. Located on a farm 400m from the road, the tiny house has an open feel, cathedral ceiling, queen bed, kitchenette & bathroom. Enjoy the peace and quiet of our valley, visit Ellenborough Falls & beautiful local beaches. The space The cabin has a big grassy area in front and is fully self-contained with linen, towels and light breakfast provisions provided. The only things you need to bring are personal items, food and drinks. (Please note there are NO shops or cafes nearby, so bring provisions with you). The cabin is on a farm and there are cattle, geese, gates, dams, electric fences etc. Guests are welcome to walk around the large house paddock and access other areas, whilst taking care and remembering to shut gates. The views from the top of the hill behind the cabin (4 mins walk) cover the whole valley and are stunning. PETS The default position is no pets, because the cabin is on a farm with various animals and livestock that can be spooked, or harmed by dogs, but ask us about pets that are non-aggressive, well trained and clean. We’ve had those stay before. ACCESS Upper Lansdowne is a tiny village, but If you're making the trip north or south on the freeway coming here only adds about 30 mins total to your trip. It's well worth the diversion to see the beautiful, green valley, epic escarpment, volcanic plugs and enjoy the peace and quiet. Coming from the north turn off the freeway at Coopernook and head for Lansdowne. From the south get off the freeway at Cundletown then turn right (north) up Lansdowne Rd at the airport roundabout. There is ~1km of dirt road to our front gate that can be rough at times, especially during/after wet periods, but it's still suitable for ordinary 2WD cars, just take it easy. Also the tar roads in the area are notable for the quantity of pot holes and rough spots. NOTE: Despite online maps saying it's open, Koppin Yarratt Rd coming from Comboyne to the north is CLOSED and has been for more than 10 years, so you can't get through that way. BREAKFAST We offer light breakfast provisions such as muesli, bread, fruit, milk, tea & coffee. Guests should remember that there are no shops or services nearby, so best come prepared with food and drink. Popping out to get a snack will be a 30-60 min round trip. The BEDROOM/LIVING SPACE has a queen bed, folding chairs & table, plus a reverse cycle air-conditioner. The windows have blinds, although you may like to sleep with them open to see the star lit view and sunrise on the hills. The KITCHENETTE includes a fridge with a small freezer compartment, microwave, kettle, toaster, cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils. There is a gas-fired BBQ outside with a side burner and a couple of pans are provided. The BATHROOM is fitted with a shower, basin and a COMPOSTING toilet. OUTDOORS there is a deck with a large grassy area in front of it to enjoy the views over our beautiful rural setting. Parking is available next to the cabin. NOTE ON PRIVACY: The cabin is on the way to the main farm shed, so there may be a few comings and goings, although we try to limit activity when guests are present. Wi-Fi or digital detox? A Wi-Fi extender is available by request. The Wi-Fi is turned off when we go to bed until breakfast time to give everyone a rest from EMFs. Telstra mobile reception has recently improved and works fine. Optus was patchy last time we tried, but you can walk up the slope behind the cabin to get a stronger signal. Guest access Guests are welcome to walk around the large house paddock. The other parts of the farm can be accessed with awareness that there are animals around, gates need to be closed behind you and electric fences may be on. Other things to note Guests can drive to the cabin (head past the house) and let themselves in (key will be left in the door). A Wi-Fi extender is available by request. The Wi-Fi is usually switched off when we go to bed until breakfast time. Telstra mobile reception has recently improved. Optus was patchy last time we tried, but with either you can walk up the slope behind the cabin to get a stronger signal. There are no local shops or services – 15 minutes one way to Lansdowne Post Office to get bread and milk and other basics, or 30 mins to Taree, where there are supermarkets. The cabin is on a working farm with cattle, geese, gates, unfenced dams and electric fences. Guests are welcome to walk around the property e,g. to the viewing platform at the top of the hill, or the large, bottom dam, but bear in mind it's a farm, so please close gates and take care of yourself.
