Description
This delightful and cosy, single-storey, detached holiday cottage has been furnished to a high standard and has pleasant views across open countryside. It sits on the edge of the village, on the line of Hadrian’s Wall. We have taken the opportunity during the latest lockdown to have works to ext. , replacing elderly night storage heaters with oil filled electric radiators providing efficient / flexible heating, redecorated internal and look forward to welcoming guests back. The space The sitting room has views across the countryside and the crags of the '9 nicks of Thirlwall along which Hadrian's Wall runs. There is a wood burning stove in this room and oil filled radiators in all rooms. It has a separate kitchen / dining room ... Electric hob and oven, microwave, fridge, washing machine. There is a double bed room and a single bedroom. Bathroom with electric shower over bath. An outdoor shed with padlock stores portable Bbq and fuel (included) for the wood burner and also has adequate space for three bicycles.. The interner connection has recently been upgraded to hyperfast fibre broadband. Guest access The cottage is all on one level with just the small front doorstep to negotiate. Outside is a gravelled are for parking, adequate for three cars. There is a small paved terrace at the far end with garden table and chairs and a modest grassed area beyond all with views over the countryside. Other things to note The nearest pub, the Samson Inn, is a few minutes walk away ... about 300 yards, serving real ale and meals. the Samson closed fir a period but has now been purchased by the community and re-opened on October 2023. There are a number of other pubs and restaurants within a four mile radius. The Roman wall lies just yards away ... The cottage is within the zone of the site of the scheduled monument ! The Hadrian's Wall National Trail passes about 50 yards away. It is also only a mile and a half away where the Pennine Way National Trail joins the Hadrian's Wall Trail and they overlap for the next 10 miles or so heading west. The Roman visitor sites of Birdoswald (other side of Gilsland about 2 miles away), The Roman Army museum (3miles), Housesteads, Vindolanda (both ~8miles) and Chesters (~16miles) are all short driving distances away. The walking in the area is superb either on sections of the Wall or the countryside and along the rivers Irthing or South Tyne. Several circular walks are possible straight from the cottage. Haltwhistle Golf course is only a mile away and at least 5 other courses within 20 mile radius.
