Sommocolonia Vacation Rental
Sommocolonia Vacation Rental
Description
Our home in Sommocolonia is in a hilltop village above Barga in the Garfagnana region — a beautiful and lesser-known part of Italy where life moves at a slower pace. Our simple & lovingly furnished two-bedroom stone house is designed for those who want to experience authentic Tuscan village life rather than a luxury resort stay. We are a family of designers, and we’ve created a comfortable, thoughtful home with a well-stocked kitchen, beautiful surroundings, good beds and a sense of calm. The space Our two story house sits high in the mountains overlooking the Serchio River Valley, with sweeping views toward the Apuan Alps — the same mountains where Michelangelo sourced his marble. Summers here are noticeably cooler than much of Tuscany, making it a wonderful escape during the hotter months. Inside, you’ll find: • Two comfortable bedrooms with high-quality American-style mattresses (something we care about after too many sleepless nights in Airbnbs!) • A well-equipped kitchen with a traditional Tuscan grill • Thoughtful furnishings and spaces designed for relaxing, cooking, and slowing down • A simple but modernized bathroom. Outside on the patio, there is a wood-burning oven where you can make pizza and enjoy long evenings with local wine and ingredients from the market. This is an ideal place for people who enjoy cooking and local food culture. We love visiting nearby markets, bringing home fresh pasta, vegetables, cheeses, and wine, and preparing simple meals at home. If that sounds appealing to you, you’ll likely feel very happy here. The area is wonderful for hiking, biking, e-biking, and exploring historic villages. The nearby town of Barga — one of Tuscany’s most charming small towns — has cafés, restaurants, groceries, shops, and everything you need. Sommocolonia itself is peaceful and has no commercial services, which is part of its magic. A beautiful Roman road connects the village toward Barga and makes for a memorable walk through the landscape. Distances: • About 45 minutes to Lucca • About 1.5 hours to Florence • Easy access to hiking, mountain villages, and day trips throughout northern Tuscany. This is not a fancy house — it is a comfortable, authentic, deeply loved home in one of the most beautiful and unspoiled corners of Tuscany. Guest access All areas Other things to note Important to know before booking: The house is reached by approximately a three-block walk uphill on a cobblestone village road. We can arrange help transporting luggage, but guests should be comfortable walking uphill and navigating uneven historic pathways. This home may not be suitable for guests with mobility limitations.
