The House On The Rock

So close and yet you feel so far away.. The house lies on the very top of the island's town of Chora, in a quiet part of the historical and picturesque quarter “Castro”. With a secret garden behind and a 360 degrees rooftop overlooking Santorini, it is perfect for couples and families, greatly positioned towards the centre, the port and the beaches. Please note we do not welcome groups of youngsters. The space On the top of the chora (island capital), our house lies in a quiet part of the historical and picturesque “Castro”. It is a neighbor to the most beautiful church of Ios – Gremiotissa. The house is not accessible by car which is ideal for calm holidays and it is situated only some 20 min walk from the closest beach (or 10 min by walking, then 5 min by bus). It offers excellent view to Santorini and excellent proximity to the city centre, yet located in a quiet part of it. It is very suited for couples and families – fully equipped with large fridge & freezer, dishwasher, large stove, washing machine and 2 coffee machines (Nespresso, filter coffee machine, as well as frappe frother) - offering great comfort and perfect for longer stays. Consisting of spacious living room and kitchen, one master bedroom with double bed and one kids' room with a double decker bed. There is a modern bathroom and a mezzanine with the possibility to accommodate two more people. Still, for a comfortable stay, we would not recommend it to more than 4 – 5 people. The house has been recently renovated with a lot of taste, using architect and interior designer from Athens and local workers, all in order to respect and keep the local touch and Cycladic style –simplicity and combination of cement & wood. A part of the house’s wall is a rock (master bedroom) that has been kept to preserve its natural beauty and natural cooling effect. Nearest all interior design has been handmade and as much of it as possible was produced on the island in order to support the local community. Most of our ceramics comes from the island of Naxos. There are several books and magazines to your disposal – mostly on the Greek culture, architecture, design, mythology and way of being. Also some books in several languages for children. Feel free to use them but with love, the same goes for the wooden toys. There is a baby bed if needed. The house is fully equipped so that you can do all of your cooking inside. The nearest restaurant that also offers take away (The Nest), lies some 150 meters from the house. Due to increasingly warmer summers, we have recently installed new air-conditioning system in the living room, even though the house is built in a way that regulates itself the temperature and protects from strong wind and from the biggest heat. Additionally, you can use our electric fans and it is always cooler to be inside then on the outside☺During spring and autumn, you can use again the AC system to warm up or the additional heater and the many blankets for your better comfort. As we have a big respect to the Gremiotissa church and the local neighborhood, we do not welcome noisy guests and groups of youngsters. Please note that during the months of July & August, the nights can be rather noisy due to youngster gatherings around the church. Other things to note Please note that our house lies on the hill and that the last 20 meters are steps. Do also note that the water pressure in the shower can vary as this is very common issue on the Cycladic islands but you will never be without enough water. Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the house. Please do take care abt your babies and children - there is a yard with stairs, a rooftop and two ladders inside the house - all potential sources of accidents - in which case we cannot be hold responsible.
