Description

Switch off in our romantic gypsy caravan nestled in a peaceful five acre organic vineyard with stunning views down the Trothy Valley. Relax in the wood-fired sauna, take a bath under the stars or cook over the outdoor fire pit. In the cool eco-cabin you can curl up on the sofa while dinner is in the oven. The caravan is cosy all year round with its own wood burning stove. Nearby: excellent pub (40 mins walk), Michelin-star Walnut Tree, walks, castles, mountains and market town of Abergavenny. The space The caravan was used in the 1996 movie of Wind in the Willows - now retired to the peace and quiet of the North Monmouthshire Countryside, it is a unique setting for a romantic getaway. It is on grid, but our electricity supply is limited, so hair dryers will blow the system and there is no wi-fi and limited mobile signal, but the dark skies, stars, wood-fired sauna and fire-pit make up for it! You will hear owls, sheep, maybe foxes and badgers and can do as you please in your own field. The farm is a very old organic sheep farm and you are welcome to walk the fields and picnic up in the quarry. If you want to help at lambing, we will welcome you! There is lots to do nearby, including our local vineyard for wine tastings, excellent pub within walking distance (45 mins) and great independent shops and food in Abergavenny. The roads and lanes provide excellent cycling and there are riding stables within ten minutes. Walking in the Black Mountains is fantastic, with incredible landscapes but very few people. Guest access Guests get the beautiful caravan and wooden eco cabin, which is on grid and offers gas central heating, full cooker and great shower room / toilet worthy of a good hotel. The caravan sits at the top of a five acres organic vineyard, planted in 2025, from which we will be making natural wines in the near future. There is a fire pit (we supply ample firewood), beautiful outdoor bath and a wood-fired barrel sauna with amazing views down the valley. When the weather is dry you can take your car up the field, but be prepared for a romantic walk as part of the full experience. Other things to note We like people to enjoy the farm and countryside, to light fires outside and reconnect with themselves and the earth. There is a limited power supply, which allows phone charging etc. There is no internet or TV, as most of our guests want to escape these. However, if you need to contact the office, escape to finish that piece of work or extend your stay to work remotely, we have a modern, shared workspace with excellent broadband, good coffee and meeting room, which can be used by arrangement. Why not visit our local vineyard for a tour and tasting - we can arrange that ahead. On our farm, we produce award-winning organic pasture-fed lamb for the perfect barbecue or to take home. Look us up at Black Welsh Lamb. Have a lovely time!
