A grade II* listed cottage renovated into a modern and comfortable two-bedroom house with a large kitchen-living area exhibiting original features of the 15th century stables. Designed as a writers’ retreat cottage, it’s a quiet space providing guests with everything you need for a relaxing break. Located on site of Tŷ Newydd, the national writing centre of Wales, and the last home of former Prime Minister David Lloyd George. 20 minutes’ walk to the sea and 5 minutes to the local pub. The space Designed to be a dedicated Writers' Retreat Cottage, during quiet times - we also offer venue hire for families looking for holiday stays. The cottage is cosy and compact – perfect for a couple, two couples, or a small family. The cottage has two large bedrooms with king-size beds (which can also be split into two singles, please let us know your desired set up when booking). We can also set up comfortable camp-beds for children should you need them to be in the same room as the parents. We have a high chair and a travel cot – but please bring your own linen for the cot. Between both bedrooms, you will find a bathroom with a walk-in shower with complimentary shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The whole ground floor is one room: a kitchen-dining area with a large sofa (which also turns into a double sofa bed if you need more sleeping space), small internet TV with Netflix and BBC iPlayer, dining table and chairs, and a brand-new kitchen including oven, hobs, fridge with a small freezer compartment at its top, microwave, kettle and toaster. There will be a few essential items such as tea, coffee, sugar, olive oil and herbs too. The cottage is located in a quiet area of Llanystumdwy, the village of Lloyd George, 5 minutes walk from the local pub, Y Plu. Close to the seaside, and the town of Cricieth, there are plenty of local attractions to visit including the castles of north Wales, which are UNESCO sites, and the world renowned Llŷn Peninsula which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. If you are interested in walking up Y Wyddfa (Snowdon), you are only 30 minutes from Rhyd Ddu, the starting point for one of the quieter trails; or 45 minutes from Llanberis - the other side of the mountain, where most of the tourists (!) and the Snowdon Mountain Railway is based. Portmeirion village is only a 10-mile journey, and indeed the Tŷ Newydd Writing Centre opposite the cottage was designed by the same Portmeirion architect - Sir Clough Williams-Ellis. Search his name on a search engine to learn more about him and his designs, and for interesting ideas for things to see in the area. For adventurers, we are within an hour's drive from all of the Zip-World attractions. There is ample parking immediately outside the cottage, and a key-box is available for self check-ins. Staff members are always available to help with your trip, to offer advice on attractions and travel. From the front door, you will find several nice walks to the river or the sea, and although the cottage itself does not have a garden - sometimes the main centre's garden and grounds can be made available. Please enquire when booking if you can use the grounds during your stay. There is a small patch of wood just to the left of the cottage for you to explore, where you can often spot owls, woodpeckers, pheasants, and other beautiful wildlife creatures. In the spring, you will also enjoy the company of newly born lambs in the field. Guest access We have plenty of free parking available on site.
